Nine Blue-Chip Companies Say No to Tokenized Stocks

Tokenized stocks have been among the hottest topics in crypto this year, but the companies behind the shares are starting to object.

Nine issuers have objected to their shares trading on OKXICE, the tokenized stock venue from OKX and ICE, the company that owns the New York Stock Exchange. The companies include Verizon, Broadcom, UnitedHealth, Cerebras, AppLovin, Applied Digital, Rocket Lab, CoreWeave, and Applied Optoelectronics. That represents 14% of the 63 companies the venue planned to list, and the notice does not say why they objected or whether the objections keep them off the platform.

The OKX venue itself is ambitious, featuring around-the-clock trading through Uniswap v4 pools on OKX's XLayer chain, settled in USDC and USDT, with a third-party tokenizer holding the real shares one-for-one at a registered broker-dealer. It exists because the SEC unveiled an "Innovation Exemption" in September, after the Clarity Act died in the Senate, allowing platforms to trade tokenized stocks without registering as exchanges.

But there is a rub. OKXICE is not registered with the SEC and is not subject to Regulation NMS, the rule ensuring investors get the best displayed price. It is not required to provide fair access, trading is capped at a fraction of each stock's normal volume, and administrators can upgrade the smart contracts with no advance notice.

Nasdaq is not on the list but is opting its own shares out anyway, citing the lack of real-time best prices and consolidated tape reporting. Nasdaq just won approval for its own tokenized securities pilot, so the company building one venue will not put its stock on a rival's.

Here is the problem nobody priced in: issuer consent. Every bull case assumed the hard part was regulatory — get permission, build the rails, and the assets arrive. But a tokenized share needs a real share behind it, and now the issuing company gets a say. A CFO weighing a thinner, more volatile market trading their stock at 3 a.m. with no best-execution duty can choose to opt out, and some already are.

So who is impacted? OKXICE most directly, losing 14% of its roster before it has even announced a launch date. Robinhood, Kraken, and Backed Finance are hit too, all running stock-token products that need a growing pool of tokenizable equities. Robinhood Chain is definitely impacted, where Long.xyz pairs memecoins against tokenized NVDA and TSLA and meme-versus-stock pairs drive most stock-token volume. Uniswap was likely going to be one of the primary providers of the liquidity pools to trade these tokenized shares, and there are certainly more.

If the objections from these nine do start a longer trend, a larger battle may be looming for the future of tokenized stocks.

Macro Crypto and Markets

Crypto majors were slightly red: BTC -1% at $81.4k; ETH -2% at $2,380; SOL -1% at $104; HYPE -2% at $78; Z +1% at $1,140.

Top alt movers included WLD (+9%), TIA (+6%), Stable (+5%), and ZRO (+3%).

Oil rose 6% to $109, while gold fell 0.4% to $4,140. Stock futures were mixed as oil jumped: DOW +0.1%, Nasdaq -0.6%.

The Mt. Gox trustee pushed its repayment deadline to October 31, 2027, a fourth consecutive one-year delay, with about 34,388 BTC worth $2.8 billion still undistributed. The distributions stem from the exchange's 2014 collapse, meaning creditors will have waited well over a decade for repayment by the time the new deadline arrives.

JPMorgan, the largest U.S. bank by assets, brought its JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum for institutional clients, offering settlement in seconds on any day of the week against wires that take days. Kinexys co-head Naveen Mallela called deposit tokens "a compelling alternative" to stablecoins because they can pay interest.

JPMorgan Asset Management included bitcoin in its long-term return forecasts for the first time, projecting a 10% annual base case over the next decade against 7.5% for U.S. large-cap stocks and 5.5% for gold.

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, filed for a buffered Bitcoin ETF that would absorb roughly the first 10% of losses in exchange for a capped upside, using options on IBIT across three staggered monthly tranches rather than holding bitcoin directly.

Mastercard launched Stablecoin Security, a tool that scores stablecoin payments for fraud, scam, and sanctions exposure before funds move on-chain, launching in North America with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails and expanding worldwide in 2027.

XRP Ledger developers published a second amendment to fix the lending protocol before the first one ever activates, with both now listed as requirements so the network adopts the corrected version from the start.

Corporate Treasuries & ETFs

Bitcoin ETFs saw $527 million in net inflows on Monday, while ETH ETFs lost $103 million in net outflows.

Strive bought 4,045 BTC for about $335 million at an average of $82,803 between October 12 and 16, lifting holdings to 36,818 BTC and funding the purchase with $369.2 million from warrant exercises.

Strategy bought 267 BTC for $22.1 million while repurchasing $193.1 million of STRC preferred stock.

Tom Lee's Bitmine added 12,535 ETH worth about $30 million to reach 6,041,481 ETH, or 4.9% of all Ethereum, putting it 99% of the way to the 5% target.

Meme Coin Tracker

Meme leaders were mostly flat: DOGE even, SHIB -1%, PEPE +3%, PENGU even, TRUMP -1%, SPX even, BONK even.

Robinhood Chain leaders were mixed: Pons +2% to $179 million; AI -5% at $75 million; Cashcat -3% at $102 million; Torch +60%, Schiffy +30%, and LLL +68% led top movers.

Solana top movers included Borly +18x, Pokemon +73x, and Dacity +30%; Ansem -10% at $90 million.

Token, Airdrop & Protocol Tracker

Papertrade led on-chain protocols in revenue with $2.5 million, followed by Pump.fun at $2.18 million and then Hyperliquid at $1.92 million.

Pump.fun rolled out gacha packs in its app, spanning categories like Pokemon, One Piece, Sports, and Watches, with price points from $25 to $5,000 per pack.

Papertrade said it will not make PAPER transferable because a tradable perpetual on the token would let an attacker short the protocol's own solvency, while also rewriting its fee and minting rules.

The Hyperliquid Policy Center filed five recommendations on the SEC's proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, asking the agency to write its airdrop position into the final rule so free tokens are not treated as securities, to clarify whether exempt tokens can trade on decentralized protocols afterward, and to separate automatic on-chain buybacks from ones a company directs by hand. recommendations are part of the SEC's public comment process, the step where outside feedback can shape a proposed rule before it is finalized.

NFTs

NFT leaders were mostly flat: Punks even at 31 ETH, BAYC -1% at 5.55 ETH, and Pudgy even at 2.4 ETH. Credits (+24%) and Stonkbrokers (+14%) led top movers.
