Active Vista film fest demands truth, justice through collective memory

The Active Vista Human Rights Festival is currently underway at venues across the Philippines, running until Sept. 27, with its 14th edition turning to collective memory as a means of demanding truth, justice, and accountability.

Under the theme “Walang Kawala,” this year’s festival marks a decade since the beginning of the country’s war on drugs, the anti-drug campaign launched in 2016, while also commemorating the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, first proclaimed in September 1972.

Through film screenings, exhibitions, forums, and staged readings, the festival invites audiences to confront the past, challenge prevailing narratives, and imagine a future founded on dignity, freedom, and the full realization of human rights.

Satellite events and activities are taking place in Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dumaguete, Iloilo, and Laguna, organized by Active Vista and the DAKILA Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, extending the festival’s reach beyond the capital.

The screening lineup includes a series of shorts, with one screening scheduled on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at Balay Bayani, Bantayog Memorial Center in Quezon City, followed by a 6 p.m. screening of the documentary Bloom Where You Are Planted — sessions that fall within the festival’s final days.

Michael V. steps in as temporary ‘Family Feud’ host

Comedy icon Michael V. is stepping in as the temporary host of the game show Family Feud, the Philippine version of the long-running game show format, while its usual host, Dingdong Dantes, attends to tapings of his new show, The Master Cutter.

While handling hosting duties from Mondays to Fridays, Michael V. will continue to appear on Pepito Manaloto every Saturday and Bubble Gang every Sunday.

Family Feud airs weekdays at 5:35 p.m. on GMA Network, with livestreaming available via the Kapuso Stream.

BGC to stage Pinoy Playlist Musikahan 2026

Bonifacio Global City (BGC) is set to host the BGC Pinoy Playlist Musikahan 2026 music festival on Oct. 17 and 18, promising two days of performances, experiences, and collective music-making.

The program includes Harana on the BGC Bus, a special live serenade from a featured artist aboard a regular BGC Bus route; Pinoy Playlist Conversations, where speakers will share stories, insights, and expertise on relevant topics in music; special performances by Pinoy performers and rising artists; and SALINAWIT performances, where artists breathe new life into foreign songs translated into Filipino languages, among many other activities.

The festival will also hold the Ryan Cayabyab Awards, named for the National Artist for Music, which will honor Dr. Grace Nono, Prof. Chino Toledo, and Noel Cabangon for their contributions to music.

James Arthur releases new single ‘Waste My’

Following his first sold-out European arena headline tour and a sold-out UK and Ireland arena headline tour, the British singer-songwriter James Arthur has released a new single titled “Waste My Tears.”

The single features the singer’s gritty soul, supported by gospel backing vocals, and is out now on all digital music streaming platforms.

The Kid LAROI enlists GIVĒON for new single ‘GET EVEN’

The Kid LAROI, the Australian rapper and singer, has released a new single titled “GET EVEN,” featuring GIVĒON, the American R&B singer.

It marks the first collaboration between the two artists and comes with a music video directed by Ayodeji.

The song was originally intended for inclusion in BEFORE I FORGET, The Kid LAROI’s album released earlier this year, and is only now being released.

The track is out now on all digital music streaming platforms.
