Key Takeaways

  • •Optimum Voyage and Weilbach have launched Weilbach Optimizer, making Optimum Voyage's optimization technology available directly within the Weilbach platform.
  • •Weilbach Optimizer analyzes vessel performance, weather forecasts, and currents to evaluate millions of route variations while respecting the original bridge-planned route's constraints.
  • •The technology aims to reduce fuel consumption, limit heavy-weather exposure, and improve ETA reliability, with final routing decisions always left to the crew.
  • •The optimization engine behind the product already optimizes more than 700 vessels daily, and more than 50 shipowners use the technology worldwide.
  • •Weilbach Optimizer will be showcased at SMM Hamburg from 1 to 4 September at Weilbach's stand (Hall B1 ground floor, Stand 301).
Weilbach Optimizer, Powered by Optimum Voyage, Brings Advanced Voyage Optimization to the Weilbach Platform

Optimum Voyage has partnered with Weilbach to make its voyage optimization technology available directly within the Weilbach platform under the name Weilbach Optimizer.

Bringing new voyage optimization technology into a company with a history dating back to 1755 is notable: more than 270 years of maritime experience combined with modern voyage optimization. The partnership also reflects a broader industry shift, as shipping companies increasingly adopt digital voyage optimization tools to cut fuel costs and meet tightening regulatory requirements, including the IMO's carbon intensity regulations and the EU Emissions Trading System, which came into force for shipping in 2024.

What Weilbach Optimizer does

Weilbach Optimizer works seamlessly with routes created in Weilbach Viewer. It analyzes vessel-specific performance together with high-resolution weather forecasts, currents and other data to evaluate millions of possible route variations for each optimization, while respecting the navigability and constraints of the original bridge-planned route.

The result is practical route options that help reduce fuel consumption, minimize heavy-weather exposure and improve ETA reliability, while always leaving the final decision with the crew. The tool combines Weilbach's navigation solutions with Optimum Voyage's optimization technology, making advanced weather routing and voyage optimization available directly to users onboard.

Optimum Voyage is the optimization engine behind Weilbach Optimizer, delivered through the same technology as the company's API service.

"With Weilbach Optimizer, crews get practical, navigable route options built on the same engine that optimizes more than 700 vessels every day, and the final decision always remains on the bridge," says Martin Hjorth Simonsen, CEO of Optimum Voyage.

"We wanted to bring an advanced optimization technology with proven track record into our offering to our customers and distribution partners. With more than 50+ shipowners already using the technology with great success worldwide we are very excited to bring Weilbach Optimizer to market," says Daniel Friis, CCO, Weilbach A/S.

Showcase at SMM Hamburg 2026

Weilbach Optimizer is being showcased at SMM Hamburg, 1 to 4 September, at the Weilbach stand: Hall B1 ground floor, Stand 301. Martin and Thor from Optimum Voyage will be at SMM on Tuesday and Wednesday. SMM is one of the maritime industry's largest trade fairs, held biennially in Hamburg, making it a common launch venue for shipping technology.

Optimum Voyage noted it is proud to be working with another Danish maritime technology company and looks forward to what comes next.
