The U.S. Justice Department has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency that authorities say was destined for Hamas, while also taking control of websites, domains and servers used to raise funds and recruit supporters.

Announced on Sept. 1, the operation marks another major U.S. effort to disrupt terrorist financing conducted through digital assets. According to the FBI, investigators relied on court-authorized warrants and information from human sources to identify, trace and seize cryptocurrency linked to Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.

Crypto Network Targeted

The Justice Department said the roughly $560,000 was seized through actions carried out between March 2025 and October 2025. The funds originated from cryptocurrency addresses promoted via online fundraising channels associated with Hamas.

A group chat on an encrypted communications platform directed supporters to a fundraising website and supplied rotating cryptocurrency addresses, the department said. Investigators traced the resulting transactions and secured the assets through multiple seizure warrants.

The FBI also obtained information on thousands of individuals who contacted Hamas online while attempting or considering donations in both cryptocurrency and traditional forms.

Websites and Servers Seized

The financial seizures were paired with an effort to dismantle the infrastructure supporting the fundraising campaign. The FBI's Albuquerque Field Office identified and seized domains and servers controlled by the Al-Qassam Brigades, including infrastructure tied to its main website. Authorities said controlling that infrastructure enabled investigators to intercept cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas.

The operation reflects growing law-enforcement attention to cryptocurrency within broader financial investigations. Although digital assets can move quickly across borders, blockchain transactions also leave investigators with a permanent transaction trail. That traceability has made crypto-based financing a recurring focus of U.S. sanctions and counterterrorism enforcement, which has previously targeted digital-asset fundraising by groups such as ISIS, al-Qaeda and Hezbollah's military wing, often in coordination with the Treasury Department.

The latest action follows earlier U.S. seizures connected to Hamas-linked cryptocurrency fundraising. In March 2025, the Justice Department announced a separate seizure of approximately $201,400 in crypto tied to an alleged Hamas financing network.

The new seizures show that U.S. authorities continue to target both the digital assets and the online infrastructure used to support terrorist financing. The investigation remains ongoing, with the FBI coordinating its work across its counterterrorism and cyber divisions, and additional enforcement actions against terrorist-linked crypto fundraising networks are a likely area of continued attention as the operation proceeds.
