Uphold Launches RLUSD Earn, Offering Up to 7% APY on Ripple's US Dollar Stablecoin
Key Takeaways
- •Uphold launched RLUSD Earn, offering a variable rate of up to 7% APY on Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin directly within the Uphold mobile app.
- •The advertised yield is more than 18 times the FDIC national average savings account rate of 0.38% APY recorded as of September 2026.
- •Yield is generated through a lending market curated by Sentora on the Morpho decentralized protocol, with returns fluctuating based on borrower demand for RLUSD.
- •The feature requires no external wallets, private keys, subscriptions, or long-term commitments, and customers can add funds or request withdrawals at any time, though fees apply.
- •RLUSD is issued by Ripple under a New York Department of Financial Services trust charter and backed 1:1 by monthly-audited US dollar reserves, but Uphold emphasizes that RLUSD Earn is not FDIC insured, is not a bank deposit, and balances can fall.

San Francisco, California — Uphold, the infrastructure provider for on-chain finance, today launched RLUSD Earn, giving customers a simple way to earn up to 7% APY* on RLUSD, the US dollar stablecoin issued by Ripple, directly through the Uphold app. According to the company, the potential yield is more than 18 times the US national average savings rate.**
The feature is designed to deliver DeFi-powered yield without the complexity that usually comes with it: there is no external wallet to set up, no private keys to manage and no DeFi platform to navigate. Access is flexible, with no long-term commitment and no subscription — customers can add more RLUSD or request a withdrawal whenever they need their funds. Fees apply.
For many customers, stablecoins sit in an account earning little to nothing. DeFi lending can put those balances to work, but getting there has typically meant setting up an external wallet, managing private keys and moving funds across bridges. Uphold says RLUSD Earn removes all of that complexity: customers only need to choose how much RLUSD to put to work, and everything else is managed through the Uphold app they already use.
The launch reflects a broader shift in consumer crypto products, where DeFi lending markets are wrapped in familiar app-based interfaces so the wallets, keys and bridges that once kept casual users out of yield markets stay out of sight.
Under the hood, Uphold gives customers access to a lending market curated by Sentora, on Morpho. Morpho is a decentralized lending protocol in which smart contracts match lenders with borrowers directly, so interest rates emerge from supply and demand rather than from a central intermediary setting them. When borrowers pay interest to borrow RLUSD, that interest generates the yield, which means the rate moves with borrowing demand.
"Your RLUSD could be doing more," said Simon McLoughlin, CEO of Uphold. "The average US savings account pays well under half a percent, and most crypto yield platforms ask you to learn wallets and protocols before you earn anything. RLUSD Earn gives customers a much higher rate on a stablecoin from a name they know, through the app they already use, with nothing to set up."
RLUSD is issued by Ripple under a New York Department of Financial Services limited-purpose trust charter and is backed 1:1 by US dollar reserves, which are checked every month by an independent accounting firm. Ripple introduced the stablecoin in December 2024. Stablecoins are blockchain tokens pegged to fiat currencies and are widely used to settle trades, payments and cross-border transfers without routing funds through traditional banking channels. Because RLUSD is designed to hold its value against the US dollar, customers can earn without taking on crypto price swings. Uphold emphasizes, however, that RLUSD Earn is not a bank deposit, is not FDIC insured, and the balance can fall.
"RLUSD Earn is for people who want an easier way to earn a better return on their stablecoins," said Nancy Beaton, President, Uphold Consumer. "There's no subscription and no long-term commitment and customers can see their balance and earnings daily in the app."
Getting started takes only a few taps: users open Earn in the Uphold app, select RLUSD, then buy RLUSD with cash or move RLUSD they already hold. Customers can check the current APY as it changes and see what they are earning, and a withdrawal can be requested quickly and easily.
RLUSD Earn is available on the Uphold mobile app for iOS and Android in eligible US states and other countries; the full list of eligible locations is published at
Rates and Important Disclosures
*Up to 7% APY, variable, as of October 29, 2026. Rates move with borrowing demand, so what customers earn will vary, and actual returns may differ materially from the APY shown. This is not a bank deposit, it is not FDIC insured, the balance can fall, returns are variable and not guaranteed, and yield is paid by the protocol, not Uphold. This is lending, and it carries risk of loss.
**The comparison is based on the FDIC's national average savings account rate of 0.38% APY as of September 2026. Uphold's rate is variable and expressed as "up to," so the comparison will change as either rate moves.
