Unimarket, a provider of Source-to-Pay solutions, has announced the launch of Beacon, a platform-wide AI capability integrated directly into its procurement and spend management platform. Beacon is designed to deliver real-time answers to procurement, finance, and buying teams through a chatbot-style interface, addressing the searching, guessing, and waiting that have traditionally slowed procurement workflows. The launch places Unimarket alongside a growing number of procurement technology providers embedding generative AI assistants directly into their platforms, as the Source-to-Pay software category increasingly prioritizes reducing manual workload through automation.
Because Beacon is embedded across the entire platform, it assists with recurring and time-consuming tasks such as surfacing relevant policy as buyers go to market, extracting key contract and invoice data, and providing information to buyers as soon as questions arise. According to Unimarket, the result is more compliant purchasing pathways, faster time-to-answer, and reduced manual workload for teams handling sourcing, contracts, purchasing, and invoicing. For organizations in regulated sectors like healthcare, government, and higher education — where procurement policy compliance carries particular weight — embedded AI guidance at the point of purchasing decisions could help reduce exceptions before they occur.
"Beacon reflects what we've always believed about AI in procurement, it should feel like a knowledgeable colleague, not another portal to search," said Phil Kenney, CEO at Unimarket. "It's built into the platform our customers already use every day, so the value shows up immediately: fewer compliance exceptions, faster cycle times, and real time impact for team members who spend too long on manual admin tasks."
"This is about giving procurement and finance teams a partner that's present the moment they need it, no matter the time or day," Kenney added.
Justin Gillion, Unimarket's Chief Product Officer, described the launch as an important step for the company. "This is an exciting step for Unimarket as we embed fit-for-purpose AI into our platform in a meaningful and impactful way for our users," Gillion said. "The capability of Beacon is based on the experiences and day-to-day challenges our users have across procurement and finance and has been built to specifically address these roadblocks and areas for efficiency improvements, directly."
Gillion noted that this release marks the initial phase of Beacon's development. "This is just the first phase of Beacon, we'll continue to enhance and develop our AI capability to bring more relevant use cases and features, driving time savings, compliance, and better insights for customers across our Source-to-Pay platform," he added. The phased rollout approach mirrors a common pattern in enterprise AI deployment, where vendors introduce core assistant capabilities first before expanding into more specialized analytical and workflow automation features.
Unimarket serves organizations in higher education, healthcare, government, research institutions, and enterprise sectors across the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Beacon is currently rolling out across the platform in all of these markets.
