Sola Names PAX Technology Its Preferred Terminal Platform and Launches Sola Terminal on PAX-Certified Hardware

Payments technology provider Sola has named PAX Technology its preferred terminal platform and launched Sola Terminal on PAX-certified hardware, pairing Sola’s cloud technology for card-present acceptance with PAX’s Android-based terminal fleet. The arrangement gives software partners a single integration for in-person payments across devices and merchant locations.

Sola Terminal is built on the company’s cloud technology for card-present acceptance. A software partner’s platform connects to Sola once through a REST API and can then run transactions on any supported PAX device — in any location — without local drivers, software development kits (SDKs), or a direct physical connection to the terminal. This means a partner integrates with Sola once rather than building and maintaining device-specific deployments for each merchant site. Once a device is connected to the internet, the partner’s software communicates with Sola, and Sola drives the terminal.

“Software partners should be able to bring in-person payments to market without taking on the complexity of managing terminal deployments,” said Markiyan Malko, chief product officer at Sola. “By bringing Sola Terminal to PAX hardware, we are giving partners a simpler way to support their merchants today while establishing a platform we can continue expanding as their needs evolve.”

The integration is designed to serve three audiences. For Sola’s software partners, one integration provides a simpler way to support card-present payments across devices and merchant locations. For merchants, it means modern Android devices at the counter, running the same platform that powers their online, mobile, and unattended payments. For agents serving merchants directly, Sola Terminal on PAX hardware provides a clear upgrade path from aging PCI 5 equipment to newer devices built to PCI 6 or PCI 7 standards — successive generations of the Payment Card Industry’s security requirements for payment terminals — helping merchants modernize with hardware designed to meet evolving security requirements for years to come.

The partnership reflects a deliberate consolidation. Sola is standardizing its terminal fleet on PAX hardware going forward, and PAX gains a certified application that adds capability to devices already in market. Sola’s push into grocery and convenience, supported by EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) acceptance on Sola Terminal and plans to add capabilities such as eWIC — the electronic form of benefits from the Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program — over time, is expected to drive device demand in segments core to PAX’s business.

“PAXCON brings the payments ecosystem together, and our partnership with Sola demonstrates what is possible when hardware and software work together,” said Clint Jones, chief commercial officer at PAX Technology. “Sola’s technology makes it easier for software partners and merchants to deploy and manage card-present payments, while our Android terminal platform provides the secure, flexible hardware to support them. Together, we’re helping businesses and software providers modernize and scale their in-person payment experiences.”

Sola Terminal launches on PAX-certified hardware in October with surcharging — a merchant-added fee on credit card transactions — PIN debit, and EBT support available at launch, and eWIC support expected to follow. The companies will debut Sola Terminal together at PAXCON 2026, taking place October 27–28 in Anaheim, with live demonstrations on PAX hardware. Sola leadership will also be available for meetings during Money20/20 USA in Las Vegas.
