Silvaco (SVCO) rose 6.4% in premarket trading Monday after announcing a collaboration with NVIDIA aimed at developing digital twins for semiconductor design and manufacturing.
The collaboration pairs Silvaco’s physics-based modeling software with NVIDIA’s CUDA-X libraries, PhysicsNeMo, Omniverse libraries, and Nemotron open models. The companies intend to use the technology to create virtual replicas of semiconductor systems that can predict and optimize real-world behavior before physical manufacturing begins. In chip design and fabrication, these simulations are used to test device behavior, process conditions, and system interactions before committing to costly physical prototypes or manufacturing runs.

Silvaco plans to apply NVIDIA’s accelerated computing to its semiconductor device, process, photonics, and multiphysics simulation tools. As an early proof of concept, the company completed a fully scaled 3D FDTD simulation of a photonic edge coupler with 3.2 billion mesh nodes using 32 NVIDIA GPUs connected through NVLink. The simulation finished in under four hours.
According to the report, the same workload failed to converge on CPUs. The simulation also produced less than a 0.15 dB difference between measurement and simulation output.
The partnership is focused on four areas: GPU-accelerated physics simulation, AI-driven surrogate modeling, digital twin visualization using NVIDIA Omniverse and Cosmos, and scaled engineering workflows. The emphasis on photonics and multiphysics simulation also reflects growing demand for tools that can model electrical, optical, thermal, and manufacturing effects together as semiconductor systems become more complex.
Simulation Cycles Expected to Move From Weeks to Days
Silvaco expects the collaboration to reduce simulation cycles from weeks to days. The company also expects improved accuracy and enhanced collaboration through cloud-based visualization tools.
“By combining Silvaco’s deep expertise in semiconductor and multiphysics digital twins with NVIDIA’s industry-leading computing and AI platforms, we can help customers model increasingly complex systems with greater speed, fidelity, and confidence,” said CEO Walden C. Rhines.
Target applications include semiconductor process and device simulation, AI-assisted chip development, and factory optimization. For customers, the practical test will be whether GPU-accelerated workflows can be expanded beyond the initial proof of concept into repeatable production use cases across Silvaco’s broader simulation portfolio.
