Robinhood Crypto Volume Rebounds 61% in August but Remains 38% Below 2025 Level

Robinhood’s crypto trading volume increased 61% month over month to $17.5 billion in August 2026, recovering from a slower July but remaining well below the level recorded a year earlier.

Volume reached $10.9 billion in July. Despite the monthly rebound, August activity was 38% lower than the $28.1 billion processed in August 2025.

Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange Robinhood acquired in June 2025, processed $10.1 billion of August’s total. That represented a 53% increase from July but remained 30% below the exchange’s August 2025 volume. The Robinhood app accounted for the remaining $7.4 billion, up 72% month over month and down 46% year over year.

Combined, Bitstamp and the Robinhood app averaged approximately $565 million in daily crypto trading volume during August. The figures present a mixed operating picture: crypto activity recovered from July but remained below its prior-year level, while other Robinhood businesses, including event contracts and tokenized equities, recorded notable activity during the same period.

Event contracts grow faster than crypto

Robinhood’s event-contract business recorded substantially faster annual growth than its crypto operations. Customers traded 4.7 billion event contracts in August, approximately 15 times the 300 million contracts processed in August 2025. The August total was nevertheless 23% lower than July’s figure.

Event-contract revenue reached $156 million in the second quarter, exceeding the $100 million generated from crypto transactions. Crypto transaction revenue declined 38% year over year during the same period.

Robinhood offers event contracts through exchanges including Kalshi and ForecastEx, as well as through Rothera, a joint venture launched in June. When Robinhood released its second-quarter results, Rothera had processed more than 3.5 billion contracts.

US lawmakers have introduced more than 10 prediction-market bills since January. Debate remains ongoing over whether certain contracts should be regulated as derivatives or treated as gambling products.

Robinhood Chain records activity and outage

Robinhood’s blockchain network, Robinhood Chain, also recorded increased activity. Decentralized exchanges on the network handled approximately $1.6 billion in daily volume as of September 1, a 61% increase over four days.

Robinhood Chain’s public mainnet went live on July 1. The network offers tokenized stocks in more than 120 countries but is not available to customers in the United States.

On September 4, the network experienced a 14-minute outage that halted block production. Robinhood said that no customer balances were lost and that conventional brokerage accounts were not affected.

Robinhood’s total platform assets stood at $384 billion at the end of August, up 26% from a year earlier. Funded customers totaled 28.6 million, while margin balances rose to $21.5 billion.

Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD) shares closed 0.83% lower following the August operating update. Analysts at Mizuho and StoneX raised their price targets for the stock during the same week. The company’s next earnings report is expected on November 4.
