Philippine visa applications climbed 20% in the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, as more Filipinos pursue travel and opportunities overseas, according to visa outsourcing and technology services firm VFS Global. The company operates visa application centers on behalf of client governments and diplomatic missions, handling front-end steps such as document intake and biometrics enrollment, while visa decisions remain with the embassies and consulates themselves.
"The continued rise in visa applications from the Philippines highlights growing confidence among Filipino travelers and a strong desire to explore opportunities abroad," said Atul Lall, VFS Global's Regional Head for North Asia, in a statement issued on Monday.
"The sustained growth we have witnessed during the first eight months of 2026 reflects this positive trend, and we anticipate healthy demand across key destinations for the rest of the year," he added.
Company data showed a 28% increase in applications for non-Schengen countries, with Australia, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom emerging as the leading destinations. Demand for Schengen countries — the European countries sharing a common short-stay visa and internal border-free travel — remained stable, with Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland among the most popular spots for Filipino tourists. The figures were reported as percentage changes, with no absolute application volumes disclosed.
VFS Global also reported 58% year-on-year growth in its Visa At Your Doorstep service, as more applicants opted to complete the visa process at a location of their choosing. The premium offering covers application submission, biometrics enrollment, and couriering passports back to an applicant's preferred address.
Amid the surge in demand, the VFS Global executive cautioned travelers against fraudulent actors who may seek to exploit the situation.
"We also urge travelers to stay cautious and rely only on official channels for visa-related information and services," he said.
In August, the US Embassy in the Philippines issued a warning about visa fraud after arresting an individual found using fake documents. It noted that fraudulent travel documents or misrepresentation of facts could result in a lifetime ban, criminal prosecution, and arrest.
