Palantir Technologies (PLTR) has emerged as August’s breakout performer, with the stock rising about 46% during the month. At Friday’s open, shares traded near $179.94, giving the company a market value of $432.41 billion.
The rally accelerated after Palantir released second-quarter results on August 3. The data infrastructure company reported revenue of $1.94 billion, up 92.8% year over year and above Wall Street’s $1.81 billion estimate. Domestic commercial revenue was the standout, surging 149% to $764 million. The company also generated $1.22 billion in operating cash flow during the three-month period.
Earnings per share came in at $0.41, topping the consensus forecast of $0.34 by seven cents and rising from $0.16 in the same quarter a year earlier.
After the release, Palantir’s leadership raised full-year 2026 guidance for revenue, operating income, and free cash flow. Management also pointed to unprecedented contract values as evidence of continued momentum across commercial customers and government relationships, a reminder that the company’s results are being watched closely not just for top-line growth but for whether adoption across both segments can keep supporting its premium valuation.

Valuation and other concerns
Despite the strong share performance, valuation remains elevated. Palantir’s forward price-to-earnings ratio stands at 112.2x, compared with a sector median of 23.19x. Its trailing P/E ratio is even higher at 153.79, leaving little room for error if growth slows.
Insider selling has also been notable. Over the past three months, insiders sold $30.7 million in stock. Board member Lauren Elaina Friedman Stat sold 3,032 shares on August 5 at $165.00 each.
Investor Michael Burry has also taken a bearish options position against the stock. He has separately raised concerns about leverage and circular financing patterns in the broader AI infrastructure ecosystem.
