Nvidia and SK Group Announce $500 Billion-Plus AI Infrastructure and HBM Supply Partnership

Nvidia has reached a long-term AI memory supply agreement with South Korea’s SK Hynix as part of a broader partnership with SK Group valued at more than $500 billion. The companies announced the agreement late Friday at an AI summit in San Francisco attended by South Korean officials, including President Lee Jae Myung.

The partnership covers AI factory development and advanced AI memory supply. SK Telecom, an SK Group affiliate, plans to build a 2-gigawatt AI cloud facility in Korea using Nvidia’s DSX platform and Vera Rubin accelerated computing systems. The first facility is expected to come online in 2027.

NVDA stock closed at $206.84, down 0.92% for the day, while after-hours trading showed minimal movement.

SK Hynix is a leading producer of high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, a key component for AI accelerators. HBM stacks memory chips vertically to deliver the bandwidth needed to feed GPUs and other accelerators used in large-scale AI training and inference. Nvidia has been working to secure HBM supply as demand from the AI boom has contributed to a global shortage of the memory technology.

“The expansion will include a co-develop opportunity for us on the next-generation SK Hynix AI memory, and this will help us secure a stable supply of HBM memory,” said Raj Mirpuri, Nvidia’s enterprise vice president.

Under the agreement, Nvidia and SK Hynix will co-develop and optimize next-generation AI memory solutions, including future generations of high-bandwidth memory beyond HBM4. For AI infrastructure builders, memory availability has become a central constraint because accelerator shipments depend not only on GPU production but also on qualified HBM capacity, advanced packaging and data-center power.

A broader Asia-Pacific AI infrastructure push

The partnership reflects the growing role of governments and large industrial conglomerates in AI infrastructure, alongside hyperscale cloud providers. Large AI data centers require coordinated access to chips, networking, power and land, which has made national industrial policy and energy planning more closely tied to AI deployment.

Jensen Huang said South Korea has the capabilities to become a global AI powerhouse, citing the country’s networks, data centers, chip technology and industrial scale.

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said competitiveness in the AI era depends not only on how AI is used, but also on how much intelligence can be produced.

Nvidia also announced a $1 billion investment in Naver, a Korean cloud company developing data centers built around Nvidia GPUs. The project targets 200 megawatts of capacity and is intended to provide customers in South Korea and internationally with early access to AI computing resources.

Samsung and Broadcom sign separate MOU

In a separate agreement, Samsung Electronics signed a $200 billion memorandum of understanding with Broadcom to expand collaboration across memory and foundry technologies. Samsung said the agreement is designed to support the next generation of AI infrastructure.

SK Hynix listed on the Nasdaq earlier this month as part of an effort to finance its infrastructure growth plans.

SK Group is South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate, with more than 175 affiliate companies and over 100,000 employees worldwide. Its businesses span AI, semiconductors, energy and life sciences.
