Moomoo Australia and New Zealand has announced the appointment of Tapas Strickland as its new chief market strategist.

Strickland brings more than 15 years of experience in macroeconomics and financial markets to the role. He most recently served as head of market economics at National Australia Bank, and previously held positions at the Reserve Bank and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. His background spanning central bank, government, and commercial banking roles reflects a broader trend among online brokerages, which have increasingly hired high-profile market commentators to produce research and educational content as retail participation in sharemarkets has grown.

In his new role at Moomoo, Strickland will spearhead public-facing content and media, educating and informing users of the moomoo platform as well as the broader public.

"I am delighted to join Moomoo Australia and New Zealand as it accelerates its local growth plans," Strickland said. "I look forward to using my expertise to help users on their investing journey and connecting the excellence of the moomoo platform to their financial goals."

His appointment marks the latest step in Moomoo's deepening commitment to the local market. Moomoo is backed by Futu Holdings, a NASDAQ-listed brokerage group, and has been expanding its presence across the Asia-Pacific region. Recent milestones for the firm include securing principal membership in the Stockbrokers and Investment Advisers Association and being named best mobile share trading app at the Finder Product Awards.

"Recently we opened the first retail store for a trading platform in Australia, held the first Moomoo x Nasdaq Investor Day in Sydney, and plan several significant announcements before the year is out," said Moomoo chief executive officer Michael McCarthy.

"Tapas brings a wealth of experience to Moomoo Australia and New Zealand. His ability to simply explain complex market dynamics is invaluable in connecting to our users and encouraging them on their journey. His analysis and insights will help them to take on the sharemarket with confidence – a core mission for moomoo not only locally, but globally," McCarthy added.
