Stephen Miller's wife once had a relationship with a former congressman she later criticized, according to a new report.

Sources Say reported that right-wing podcaster Katie Miller previously had a fling with Eric Swalwell. The outlet said the relationship took place about a decade ago, when Miller was in her early 20s and working first as an intern and then as a congressional staffer.

The relationship occurred years before Miller married her husband, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, in 2020, The Daily Beast reported.

Despite that history, Miller and her husband were outspoken critics of Swalwell when he faced sexual misconduct allegations and later dropped out of the California gubernatorial race.

According to Sources Say, the past relationship came up because Swalwell's team allegedly raised it during a dispute over Department of Justice records. Miller said she was unaware that the prior relationship had been discussed with the DOJ.

This year, FBI Director Kash Patel moved to release files documenting Swalwell's contact with suspected Chinese intelligence operative Christine Fang. The case has long drawn attention in Washington because it sits at the intersection of national security scrutiny, personnel vetting, and politically sensitive document disputes. Swalwell's team argued that the move was an effort to weaponize the FBI and pointed to his past relationship with Miller in making that case, Sources Say reported.

Swalwell sent Patel a cease-and-desist letter, calling the planned release an attempt to smear him and derail his run for governor. He also warned that it could expose the FBI to legal liability, according to Sources Say.

Then-Attorney General Pam Bondi, who oversees the FBI as head of the Justice Department, ultimately declined to authorize the release, the outlet reported.

Bondi told Sources Say that her only contact with Swalwell involved death threats against his wife and children. Swalwell has denied that Bondi tipped him off about the FBI's plans, the outlet reported.

Sources Say also reported that Stephen Miller accused Democrats in April of keeping "blackmail files" on their own members after the misconduct allegations against Swalwell became public.

Swalwell resigned his House seat that month after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct, including one allegation of rape, The Daily Beast reported. He has denied the allegations.
