GameStop on Solana: What GMEx Holders Actually Own
Key Takeaways
- •GMEx is a tracker certificate available as a Solana token and an ERC-20 token on compatible networks, rather than a GameStop share.
- •The token can trade 24/7 when Solana-market liquidity is available, allowing prices to move while Nasdaq is closed.
- •GMEx holders do not receive GameStop voting rights, direct shareholder status or conventional cash dividends.
- •Selling on a DEX does not automatically grant issuer redemption access, which requires eligibility and, for the xPort route, onboarding with Backed and Alpaca.
- •Reported first-day volume was approximately $1.75 million, but trading activity and wallet counts do not guarantee liquidity near the displayed price.

GMEx provides exposure to GameStop’s share price, but it does not represent ownership of GME common stock. The Backed-issued token gives Solana users a way to trade GameStop-linked exposure around the clock, including when Nasdaq is closed, but holders do not receive GameStop voting rights or direct shareholder status.
xStocks announced that GMEx is available for 24/7 trading on Solana decentralised exchanges:

Trading beyond Nasdaq hours
Trading in GameStop shares on Nasdaq follows a set market schedule. GMEx can trade whenever a Solana market has available liquidity, including during weekends, holidays and periods after the US session has ended.
Backed’s GMEx product record describes the instrument as a tracker certificate issued as a Solana SPL token and as an ERC-20 token on EVM-compatible networks. Its stated aim is to track GameStop’s share price. Although the token is supported through the issuer’s collateral structure, it remains a separate financial instrument rather than a GameStop share.
Weekend prices can diverge from GME
When Nasdaq is closed, no new conventional market price for GME is being established. GMEx can nevertheless move as Solana traders respond to news, change their positions or trade through a relatively thin liquidity pool. Its price may therefore be above or below GameStop’s final Nasdaq closing price on Friday.
There is no automatic mechanism that corrects a weekend GMEx quote to match GameStop’s next opening price. When US trading resumes, eligible issuers and redeemers may compare GMEx with GME and use available issuance or redemption channels if a price difference is greater than the associated costs. Ordinary DEX holders cannot assume that they can use those channels.
GMEx holders have no voting rights
The xStocks legal overview classifies its products as bearer debt instruments structured as tracker certificates. They provide economic exposure to an underlying equity but do not confer shareholder voting rights.
A GMEx holder has a claim under Backed’s certificate structure, not direct legal ownership of the GameStop shares held in custody. As a result, token holders should not expect to vote at GameStop shareholder meetings or receive company communications in the same way as conventional shareholders.
If the underlying company pays a dividend, xStocks says the amount is reinvested, net of applicable taxes, into additional units of the same asset. The token reflects the adjustment through a rebasing mechanism. On Solana, a multiplier is used to display the revised exposure rather than delivering a conventional cash dividend to the holder’s wallet.
DEX sales and issuer redemption are different
A GMEx holder can sell on a decentralised exchange if a willing buyer exists and the pool has sufficient liquidity. Such a transaction takes place on the secondary market. Simply holding GMEx in a wallet does not automatically provide access to issuer redemption.
According to xStocks, eligible direct clients may issue or redeem through the issuer’s platform. Its in-kind xPort route requires onboarding with both Backed and brokerage provider Alpaca. The xStocks frequently asked questions also provide product information.
Users should check whether xStocks is available in their jurisdiction before buying. The product is not intended for US persons or other prohibited jurisdictions, and onchain transferability does not override the issuer’s distribution restrictions.
Backed lists no current management fee for GMEx, while reserving the right to introduce a fee of up to 0.25% per year. Issuance and redemption can each cost up to 0.50%. A price difference between GMEx and GME does not automatically create an arbitrage opportunity, because an eligible participant must still cover the spread, network costs and any issuance or redemption charge.
First-day volume does not establish exit liquidity
Solana Compass reported approximately $1.75 million in GMEx volume during the first 24 hours after listing. The period included 35,686 trades, 10,506 traders and 16,230 holders.
Those figures show trading activity but not how much GMEx a holder could sell near the displayed price. The holder total refers to wallets rather than verified individual investors and does not show how much GMEx each wallet holds. A market can record many small trades while providing limited liquidity for a larger sale.
Anyone considering a trade should examine the pool’s available liquidity, the bid-ask spread and the expected price impact. Solana’s tokenised-stock activity has also expanded, but headline volume is not a substitute for determining whether a particular token can be bought or sold efficiently.
Continuous trading depends on the price link
GMEx enables crypto markets to express a view on GameStop outside traditional exchange hours. The relevant question is whether its price stays sufficiently close to GME for that access to remain useful when liquidity is thin.
The first US market sessions after a weekend provide an early comparison, while several market cycles would offer more information. Collateral disclosure, functioning redemption routes for eligible users and adequate DEX liquidity remain important factors in assessing the product’s trading structure.
