Bitcoin Golden Cross Puts $82,800 Breakout Level in Focus
Key Takeaways
- •The golden cross formed near $70,000 as Bitcoin rebounded from its summer decline, signaling stronger medium-term momentum without setting a specific price target.
- •Bitcoin has recently traded within roughly the $76,000-$82,000 range, with $76,100 viewed as the key level buyers need to defend.
- •A move above $82,800 could open the way toward the $90,000-$92,000 area, according to Michaël van de Poppe’s outlook.
- •Bitcoin dominance fell from above 60% earlier in September to approximately 59.21%, putting its rising trendline under observation.

Bitcoin traded near $77,250 on Sept. 13 after retreating from its recent move above $82,000. The cryptocurrency remained above key moving averages as traders monitored a newly confirmed golden cross, while the broader recovery structure held as long as support near $76,100 remained intact.
Analyst Aksel Kibar identified $82,800 as the primary resistance level in the current structure. Michaël van de Poppe said Bitcoin could move toward the $90,000-$92,000 area if it breaks higher, although the market may first spend time consolidating.
Bitcoin Forms a Golden Cross Near $70,000
Bitcoin’s daily chart shows the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) crossing above the 200-day SMA, a configuration commonly known as a golden cross. The crossover formed near the $70,000 area after Bitcoin rebounded sharply from its summer lows. Bitcoin fell below $60,000 in late June before recovering through July and August.
BTC now trades well above both moving averages, and the 50-day line has turned higher. The 200-day average has also begun to flatten after declining for several months. Bitcoin accelerated from the mid-$65,000 region in late August and briefly moved above $82,000 in early September.
The crossover indicates improving medium-term momentum, but it does not establish a fixed price target. Recent daily candles have continued to hold above the moving-average crossover, leaving the broader recovery structure unchanged as traders wait for a move beyond the current range.
$76,100 Emerges as Key Support
Kibar placed the main short-term support level at $76,100 after Bitcoin pulled back from the $82,000 area. He said buyers need to defend that level while the price develops a tighter range. Bitcoin has recently traded between approximately $76,000 and $82,000 following its strong August recovery, with several daily candles closing within that range after the early September peak.
Kibar identified $82,800 as the upper boundary of the current structure. Consolidation between $76,100 and $82,800 could precede another attempt to break higher. Conversely, a move below $76,100 would broaden the consolidation and keep lower support levels in focus.
Van de Poppe Watches $90,000-$92,000 Area
Van de Poppe expects Bitcoin to consolidate for some time before making another upward move. His next target area is between $90,000 and $92,000. He said rising market phases often feature shorter sideways corrections rather than deeper pullbacks, keeping the current range central to the next directional move.
A separate weekly chart shows an overhead resistance zone in the low-$90,000 region. That zone is above Bitcoin’s recent rejection near $82,000, meaning the cryptocurrency would first need to clear the current range. Weekly momentum indicators have turned higher from recent lows as Bitcoin rebounds toward resistance, following a prolonged decline earlier in 2026.
Bitcoin Dominance Tests Rising Trendline
Bitcoin dominance stood near 59.21% on the daily chart, down from levels above 60% earlier in September. The measure was approaching a rising trendline that has supported the structure since June. The trendline connects several higher lows formed over the past three months. Because dominance measures Bitcoin’s share of total cryptocurrency market value, its direction provides context on whether market value is becoming more concentrated in Bitcoin or shifting toward other assets.
Bitcoin dominance previously climbed toward 60.4% before reversing toward its current level. Holding around the trendline would preserve the rising dominance structure. A break below it would weaken that pattern and indicate that a larger share of total cryptocurrency market value was shifting toward other assets.
Bitcoin is therefore positioned between support near $76,100 and resistance at $82,800. The golden cross provides a new technical signal, while $82,800 remains the immediate upside barrier. A move above that level would bring the $90,000-$92,000 area back into focus.
