DP World has named a new methanol dual-fuel feeder container ship at a ceremony in Aarhus, Denmark.
The 1,250 TEU vessel, named DP World London, was built in China and delivered in April 2026, DP World announced in a press release on Monday. The vessel had already completed its first methanol bunkering in Rotterdam in June.
The Portugal-flagged ship is owned by Germany's Elbdeich Reederei and operated by DP World Shipping Solutions. It will serve on the North Europe service, where feeder vessels typically relay cargo between regional ports and deep-sea hubs, a segment where dual-fuel capability is still relatively rare compared with the large oceangoing methanol-fuelled container ships ordered by major lines.
Measuring 148 meters in length, the vessel is fitted with a five-cylinder main engine and exhaust gas recirculation technology.
Its first methanol bunkering took place in Rotterdam on June 25, with Unibarge acting as the bunkering partner and Methanex supplying the fuel. Rotterdam, Europe's largest port, has been developing itself as a bunkering hub for alternative marine fuels, and methanol is among the options carriers are adopting as the shipping industry works toward the International Maritime Organization's greenhouse gas reduction targets.
