Hardware wallets were originally built to keep private keys offline. However, user expectations have shifted toward combining cold storage security with the convenience of swapping assets directly, without exporting keys, using additional applications, or relying on browser-based exchanges. This shift accelerated after high-profile centralized exchange failures drew attention to counterparty risk, and hardware wallet manufacturers have increasingly moved to differentiate their products by building integrated trading, staking, and portfolio features directly into their companion apps.

CoolWallet has manufactured hardware wallets since 2014 and reports over 300,000 users with no recorded hacking incidents. Its product lineup includes the CoolWallet Pro and the NFC-based CoolWallet Go, both credit-card-sized devices paired with the CoolWallet App, enabling users to manage cold and hot storage in a single interface. The credit-card form factor sets CoolWallet apart in a hardware wallet market that includes established competitors such as Ledger and Trezor. Private keys are generated within the device's secure chip and never leave it, keeping them isolated from the connected mobile device. The app supports buying, staking, and swapping across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, EVM-compatible chains, and other supported networks.

Integrating a swap provider into a hardware wallet product requires that the exchange feature meet the same security standards as the device itself. The core challenge is enabling users to trade without exposing private keys or transferring funds to a custodial platform. CoolWallet selected ChangeNOW for this role. The service is non-custodial, requires no registration, and automatically sources rates from both centralized and decentralized exchange liquidity across more than 1,500 assets and 90 networks.

Users access the feature directly from the swap screen in the CoolWallet App, select the assets they wish to trade, and confirm the transaction. The system routes the swap through ChangeNOW without requiring users to choose a provider manually. On coverage, users can move between assets and blockchain layers without leaving the app. On execution, swaps are designed to settle quickly and maintain their rate even during liquidity fluctuations, as routing targets the best final output rather than a headline rate.

As part of the partnership, ChangeNOW and the CoolWallet team are developing a special-edition hardware wallet for Token2049 Singapore, scheduled for October 7–8 at Marina Bay Sands. Token2049 is one of the largest annual conferences in the crypto industry, drawing major exchanges, wallet providers, and blockchain projects, making it a frequent venue for product launches and partnership announcements. The limited-edition device will feature a custom design and will include ChangeNOW as its sole in-app swap provider. Availability details will be announced at a later date. Conference attendees will also be able to participate in an interactive activity at the ChangeNOW booth, with additional information to be shared closer to the event.
