Bitget CEO Gracy Chen Says Bitcoin Rally May Be a Trap, Sees $50K as a Possible Entry Point

Author: Coincentral·

Key Takeaways

  • Gracy Chen expects Bitcoin could fall to around $50,000 later this year or in early 2027, a decline of more than $25,000 from current levels, before she adds to her holdings.
  • Her cautious outlook echoes Michael Terpin's projection of a drop to the $40,000 range from the October 2025 all-time high of $126,100 and Peter Brandt's signal of a potential bottom in early October.
  • Chen's personal portfolio is mostly split between Bitcoin and the S&P 500, with less than 1% allocated to Ethereum and Solana.
  • She expressed support for Hyperliquid, particularly if the CFTC allows it to operate in regulated U.S. markets, while stating she dislikes memecoins and does not expect another memecoin season.
  • Chen rejected the idea of Bitcoin reaching $1 million by 2030, citing shrinking returns across its four-year cycles, a view that differs from Brian Armstrong and Cathie Wood.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen Says Bitcoin Rally May Be a Trap, Sees $50K as a Possible Entry Point

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen is not convinced that Bitcoin’s recent move above $79,000 marks the end of the bear market. She has said she is waiting for a decline to around $50,000 before adding to her personal Bitcoin holdings.

EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN BITCOIN PLAN

Others are buying now.

And that’s exactly how markets work.

Everyone has a different strategy.

Chen made the remarks in an interview, describing herself as “just an exchange CEO” and someone who is “not particularly good at price analysis.” Even so, she outlined a clear personal approach: hold stablecoins and wait for a better entry point.

Chen’s $50,000 target

Chen said she does not have a specific date in mind, but believes Bitcoin could reach $50,000 later this year or in early 2027. That would represent a decline of more than $25,000 from current levels.

She is not alone in that view. Transform Ventures founder Michael Terpin has said Bitcoin could fall 66% from its October 2025 all-time high of $126,100, which would place it in the $40,000 range. Veteran trader Peter Brandt has also flagged a potential price bottom around early October.

Chen acknowledged that Bitcoin could also finish the year $20,000 higher. She said she was not forecasting a crash, but was instead expressing personal caution.

Bitcoin has risen more than 20% in the past week, drawing attention from traders and institutions. That kind of sharp move has helped keep debate alive over whether the latest rally has room to run or is simply another volatile leg in a market that still tends to swing quickly between enthusiasm and caution. Chen’s comments place her on the cautious side of that debate, suggesting concern that the move could be a bear market bounce rather than the start of a new bull cycle.

Portfolio and crypto views

Chen said most of her personal portfolio is split between Bitcoin and the S&P 500. She holds less than 1% in Ethereum and Solana.

She also expressed support for Hyperliquid, a decentralized finance project, saying she is bullish on it especially if the CFTC finds a way to allow it to operate in regulated U.S. markets. President Trump said this week that CFTC chair Mike Selig is working on that.

Chen was blunt about memecoins. She said she dislikes them and does not expect another memecoin season like those seen in previous cycles. “Retail investors are not stupid,” she said, pointing to the number of people who lost money in speculative tokens.

No $1 million Bitcoin by 2030

Chen also addressed the question of whether Bitcoin can reach $1 million by 2030. She does not believe that will happen.

Her reasoning is based on Bitcoin’s four-year cycles. She said the ratio between the all-time high and all-time low in each cycle keeps shrinking, suggesting diminishing returns over time.

That view differs from more bullish forecasts from figures such as Brian Armstrong and Cathie Wood, both of whom have backed the $1 million target.

Chen became Bitget’s CEO in 2024 after joining the company as managing director in 2022. Before entering crypto, she worked in television and technology and founded two companies.
