Ether ETF Outflows Stretch to Eighth Day as Fidelity's FBTC Sheds $197 Million

Fidelity's spot bitcoin fund FBTC bore the brunt of Thursday's $244.13 million in outflows from U.S. bitcoin ETFs, shedding $197.09 million in a single session, while ether funds logged declines for the eighth consecutive trading day.

Net flows — the daily balance of fund creations against redemptions — are widely tracked as a running gauge of investor positioning in crypto through these regulated vehicles, which is why streaks of this length draw close attention.

Bitcoin funds lose $731.2 million across two sessions

Per Cryptopolitan calculations from SoSoValue data, FBTC alone accounted for roughly 81% of the day's net outflow. The fund retains $10.52 billion in cumulative net inflows and holds $14.55 billion in net assets.

Wednesday's session was heavier still. According to Cryptopolitan, bitcoin funds registered $487.07 million in outflows that day, the largest single-day exit since June 25. BlackRock's IBIT led the withdrawals with $207.7 million, before easing another $5.54 million on Thursday. Ark and 21Shares' ARKB lost $20.29 million, Bitwise's BITB $17.71 million, and Grayscale's GBTC $8.20 million.

Franklin's EZBC was the only fund to attract buyers, adding $4.71 million. Total trading volume across bitcoin funds reached $3.18 billion.

The group's net assets slid from $110.68 billion on Tuesday to $104.91 billion by Thursday's close, a two-session loss of $731.2 million. Five-day outflows stand at $512.4 million, leaving October down roughly $409.7 million after approximately $321.5 million of inflows during the month's first four sessions. Cumulative net inflows since the funds launched in January 2024 remain at $57.09 billion.

Bitcoin changed hands near $82,390 on Friday, 2.9% lower than a week earlier.

Ether ETF streak losses reach about $641 million

Ether ETFs lost $72.54 million on Thursday. BlackRock's ETHA accounted for $71.12 million of that figure, while Grayscale's ETHE shed $6.12 million. Redemptions also hit 21Shares' TETH and VanEck's ETHV. Fidelity's FETH moved in the opposite direction, drawing $5.50 million, as did Morgan Stanley's MSSE with $1.32 million.

The streak began with a $2.81 million outflow on September 29. Eight consecutive days of withdrawals now total roughly $641 million, including $160.77 million on Wednesday and $201.89 million on Tuesday. Cryptopolitan tracked the run through six sessions, when cumulative losses stood near $408 million. Friday's tally show whether the run stretches to a ninth session.

Ether funds traded $1.92 billion and hold $15.64 billion in net assets, equal to 5.17% of ether's market capitalization — a measure of how much of the asset's overall value now sits in ETF vehicles. ETH fell about 7.4% over seven days to around $2,485. Counting both assets, the combined two-day exit comes to approximately $964.5 million.

Alternative funds diverge

XRP ETFs bucked the trend, attracting $8.17 million entirely through Franklin's XRPZ; the group holds $1.56 billion. Bitwise's NEAR fund NRR, launched last week, drew $4.04 million in fresh capital, bringing its assets to $59.86 million — about 1% of NEAR's market value. The split shows crypto fund demand is not moving in lockstep, with flows diverging asset by asset.

Grayscale's ZCSH sustained $18.66 million in Zcash ETF outflows, leaving $655.95 million in net assets. HYPE funds lost $9.70 million through 21Shares' THYP. Solana ETFs posted $3.32 million in outflows, their fourth consecutive day of withdrawals.

Treasury yields and oil prices have been climbing, and the dollar has strengthened. Separately, a Thai regulatory framework for bitcoin and ether funds listed in Bangkok takes effect on October 16, putting a near-term regulatory milestone on the calendar for funds beyond the U.S.
