At the 2026 Farm Progress Show, Brownfield spoke with Matt Inman, Technical Marketing Manager with BASF, about the products and innovations on display at the BASF exhibit. The exhibit ranged from crop protection products already helping farmers manage weeds and other challenges to new herbicide technology still on the horizon, offering a view of how BASF continues developing tools for today's changing production environment.

One product generating particular excitement is Zidua® PLUS herbicide, an upcoming BASF residual herbicide for soybeans. Zidua PLUS combines two modes of action and is designed to provide a flexible application window spanning from pre-plant through post-emergence. The new formulation is aimed at delivering extended weed-control flexibility while supporting resistance management.

Resistance management has become a central focus in row-crop weed control as herbicide-resistant weed populations have spread across major soybean-growing regions, which is why multiple modes of action in a single residual product are a key selling point for growers. Soybean growers have also faced tightened spraying windows in recent seasons, making the flexible pre-plant through post-emergence application timing a practical advantage for fitting herbicide programs into variable field conditions.

The Farm Progress Show, held annually in Decatur, Illinois, is one of the largest outdoor farm shows in the United States and a regular venue where crop input companies unveil new products and preview pipeline technology to Midwest growers ahead of the next planting season.
