Barcelona has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus for €10 million plus add-ons. If the transfer is completed, it would mark a steep discount on the €52 million Arsenal paid Manchester City for the Brazilian striker in July 2022.

Filling a Lewandowski-shaped hole

The move follows Robert Lewandowski's departure from Barcelona, which left the club without a natural center forward at the top of its lineup. Jesus, now 29, has been identified as the replacement.

The reported €10 million fee falls well below recent valuations. Arsenal had been seeking between £18 million and £20 million — roughly €21-23 million — while independent market estimates placed Jesus's value at €16-17 million as of late August 2026.

The modest outlay also fits a broader pattern at Barcelona, where well-documented financial constraints in recent years have pushed the club toward cut-price and free-transfer signings rather than big-money moves as it works within LaLiga's squad-cost limits.

The gap between the asking price and the reported deal price is notable. It suggests Arsenal was motivated to move Jesus along rather than hold firm, most likely because of one uncomfortable reality: the striker enters the final year of his contract in summer 2027, and his leverage only decreases from there.

Atlético Madrid had also been circling, reportedly willing to offer somewhere in the €18-20 million range. Jesus is also said to have harbored a long-standing desire to play for the Catalan club, which tends to considerably simplify negotiations on the player's side.

What Arsenal gains, and what it loses

Jesus scored 33 goals in 123 appearances for Arsenal. An ACL injury sustained in January 2025 sidelined him for a significant stretch, and by the time he returned to full fitness, the competitive landscape at Arsenal had shifted. Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres had established themselves as the preferred options up front, pushing Jesus down the pecking order.

Before his time at Arsenal, Jesus built his reputation at Manchester City, where he amassed 95 goals in 236 appearances after arriving from Palmeiras in 2016. Across both Premier League clubs, his career total stands at 128 goals in 359 games.

With the reported agreement in place, the remaining steps are the customary ones in any transfer of this profile — medical, contract signature, and registration with LaLiga — before the move becomes official.
