週三發布的一篇 Politico 報導 顯示，自 5 月以來，Trump 在其自身支持者中的支持率已下降 13 個百分點。雖然汽油價格似乎是其中一項因素，但這一下滑並不僅僅與能源成本有關。根據由獨立民調機構 Public First 進行的調查，僅 37 percent 的自我認同 MAGA 選民表示，美國應該「continue its involvement only if it doesn't increase costs」，高於 5 月持相同看法的 29 percent。近五分之一的 MAGA 選民告訴民調人員，他們希望美國不論成本如何都應結束戰爭。Politico 將這些結果形容為即使在 MAGA 共和黨人之中，「patience is wearing thin」的證據。

Brown 認為，這標誌著不滿情緒首次真正傳導到 GOP 選民之中。她寫道：「MAGA devotees may still cheer, but there is a new loser mood swirling around Trump, a boredom with his bloated act」。她又說：「His prime time address to the nation on 'election integrity' last week sank like a stone.」

她指出，甚至連電視網都拒絕播出這番談話。Brown 寫道：「Why should networks take his stale reruns when they have plenty of stale reruns of their own?」她還觀察到，Fox News 在該演說後拒絕進一步評論 2020 年選舉，不願配合「the Chinese may be to blame for Trump's 2020 election loss」這一說法，並對他的演說「a hard pass」。Fox News 過去在主要有線電視新聞網中一向被視為最同情 Trump 的媒體之一；它選擇不播出一場黃金時段總統演說，標誌著這個原本可靠的播出平台出現了顯著裂痕。

Brown 補充說：「And as the pocketbook economy refuses to respond to his hype with the same enthusiasm as Wall Street, something new and dark is taking hold.」

Brown 也批評 Trump 在世界盃上的露面，寫道：「America is still cringing from the sight of the lumbering dufus POTUS」，指的是他拒絕離開舞台。

她總結說：「Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that reveal character in the raw and penetrate the torpid public psyche」。她還說：「We've had nearly ten years of the Trump clown show, but rarely displayed in front of a global television audience of 1.5 billion people.」
