美國總統 Donald Trump 周一警告加拿大領導人要「照規矩來」，否則將面臨比現有關稅「far WORSE」的後果；加拿大總理 Mark Carney 則指控美國政府企圖使加拿大從屬化。
美國對加拿大的葡萄酒、家具與乳製品等商品加徵新的 50% 關稅；Carney 表示，美方的貿易要求顯示華盛頓想要「destroy our major industries」，其中包括汽車、鋼鐵與鋁。這場爭端正在加重對兩國高度整合產業的壓力，製造商與供應商仰賴跨境貿易流，如今卻面臨更高成本與更多不確定性。
Trump 也表示，對加拿大汽車、卡車、汽車零件與鋼鐵的新 50% 關稅將於 2027 年 1 月 1 日起上調至 50%。
「Without the United States, Canada couldn’t survive — It’s where they get all of their money and, because of their current bad leadership, primarily Governor Carney, and his Flunky, Ford, they will not be allowed to keep taking advantage of the United States — Their key to survival," Trump 在 Truth Social 上寫道，並提到安大略省省長 Doug Ford，後者曾在周一下午的記者會上討論這些關稅。
