Vodafone has partnered with AI startup Aavalynx to co-develop an AI-driven litigation platform, entering a legal tech market currently dominated by Harvey and Legora.

The telecoms giant and Aavalynx are building a platform designed to help enterprises manage and track legal disputes while forecasting the financial costs associated with them. The AI company told City AM that the joint venture "gives enterprise legal and business leaders a real-time, unified view of their disputes portfolio, turning litigation from an unmanaged legal cost into a proactively managed financial risk asset."

For Vodafone, one of Europe's largest telecommunications operators, the partnership reflects a broader push by large enterprises to bring greater data-driven discipline to in-house legal teams managing complex regulatory and commercial disputes across multiple jurisdictions.

The partnership was announced alongside Aavalynx's £1.5 million pre-seed funding round, revealed on Tuesday for its legal tech platform.

Aavalynx was founded in 2023 by chief executive Hanna Roos, a disputes lawyer with over two decades of experience handling high-stakes legal disputes across sectors including the pharmaceutical industry, aerospace, and luxury art.

Roos began her legal career at Freshfields before moving to Latham & Watkins and subsequently to Quinn Emanuel. In 2021, she founded her own disputes-focused boutique law firm, Aavagard.

"Vodafone helped shape the platform, not just use it. As a co-development partner, Vodafone has given us their vision of innovative Aavalynx product features that serve in-house dispute teams well," Roos said.

Harvey and Legora Lead the Market

The legal tech sector is currently led by Harvey and Legora, with a range of startups — including Clio — challenging the established players. The sector has drawn growing venture capital interest as AI capabilities advance, with corporate legal departments increasingly adopting tools that extend beyond document review into strategy and risk forecasting.

Both Harvey and Legora have launched advertising campaigns featuring well-known celebrities to build interest. Jude Law fronts Legora's campaign, while Harvey recruited the actor who plays Harvey Specter in the television series Suits, the character after which the tool is named.

Roos argued that existing AI tools in the legal tech market, including Harvey and Legora, "by and large improve lawyer efficiency," but that "efficiency is not good enough."

"Generic LLM models cannot address the unique complexities of a sector like dispute resolution. The fact is that good tools make disputes efficient, but great ones make them disappear," Roos said.
