Lightsource bp and Meta have finalized a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to support Mowata Solar, a 172-MW solar project currently in development in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. The agreement will add new generation capacity to the local grid, advancing Meta's commitment to expanding energy infrastructure in the regions where it operates. The deal is part of a broader wave of corporate renewable energy procurements by major technology companies seeking to match rising data center electricity demand with clean generation.

The deal marks the latest collaboration between the two companies on solar energy. In 2022, Meta signed a long-term PPA for energy generated by the 134-MW Arche Solar project in Gorham Township, Ohio. Meta ranks among the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy globally, with solar and wind PPAs spanning multiple states.

The project also represents a notable expansion of utility-scale solar in Louisiana, a state where the energy mix has historically been dominated by natural gas and petroleum. Construction on Mowata Solar is scheduled to begin later this year, with an estimated 250–350 jobs created during the build phase.

As part of its community benefit commitment to the area, Lightsource bp made an initial $400,000 contribution in 2025 to the Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board, which supports investments in local education and infrastructure.

Lightsource bp has also developed a long-term Land Management and Biodiversity Plan for the Mowata Solar site. The plan includes habitat conservation, land restoration, and other biodiversity measures. Specifically, the company intends to restore coastal native habitats by planting native Cajun Prairie habitat and local native woody plant species. These improvements are expected to enhance soil health and increase overall biodiversity across the site.
