TGS launches seismic overhaul offshore Egypt
Key Takeaways
- •TGS and EGAS have begun the EGY-2DRE2026 2D seismic reimaging project offshore Egypt.
- •The project covers 34,000 km and combines multiple GeoStreamer surveys with other conventional 2D data.
- •The dataset will be processed with advanced velocity model building and pre-stack depth migration to improve seismic interpretation.
- •TGS says the result should support prospect identification, exploration planning and future licensing activity in several offshore basins.
- •Final products for a priority subset of lines are scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, and the full project is due in the first quarter of 2028.

Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS, in partnership with Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), has started a large-scale 2D seismic reimaging project covering 34,000 km offshore Egypt.
The project, called EGY-2DRE2026, will combine data from the GeoStreamer 2016, 2018 and 2023 surveys, along with other available conventional 2D data, to create a single, consistent regional framework across the offshore basins. The work is supported by industry funding.
The merged dataset will undergo advanced velocity model building and pre-stack depth migration, a processing step aimed at improving the quality and consistency of existing seismic information for interpretation.
TGS said the reimaged dataset is intended to provide operators with a sharper basin-wide structural framework to support prospect identification and maturation. It is also expected to help customers direct exploration budgets toward areas of highest potential in the anticipated future licensing round, while supporting activity in the offshore Nile Delta, Herodotus Basin and the wider Eastern Mediterranean Basin, where access to clearer subsurface imaging can help companies compare opportunities across multiple blocks and datasets.
Final products for a priority subset of 2D lines are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027, while completion of the full project is set for the first quarter of 2028.
“By combining our latest imaging technology with the depth and breadth of our existing coverage, we’re able to de-risk exploration decisions and support our customers as they evaluate future opportunities in this highly prospective part of the Egyptian offshore,” said David Hajovsky, EVP for multi-client at TGS.
