Spot Ethereum ETFs Outpace Bitcoin Funds as Weekly BTC Inflows Narrow

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds finished a third consecutive week with positive net inflows, although momentum weakened sharply toward the end of the period. Since their launch in the United States in January 2024, spot Bitcoin ETFs have attracted tens of billions of dollars and become a primary channel for regulated exposure to digital assets.

At the same time, spot Ethereum ETFs continued to draw stronger demand from investors. The ETH-tracking funds added more than $100 million in net inflows during the week as Ethereum's price moved toward the $1,950 level.

Bitcoin ETFs Stay Positive After Late-Week Outflows

Funds tracking Bitcoin had been under pressure for eight consecutive weeks before the trend shifted in early July. During that losing streak, which began in mid-May, investors withdrew more than $8 billion from the products. Total net inflows fell from more than $59.34 billion to $51.08 billion by July 2.

The negative run ended during the first full week of July, when the spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded nearly $200 million in net inflows. A further $75.67 million followed in the next week, and the most recent week also started strongly.

Across seven consecutive days of positive flows, from July 14 through July 22, spot Bitcoin ETFs brought in roughly $1 billion in net inflows. The period coincided with Bitcoin's price rally, which pushed the asset to $67,000 on Wednesday for the first time in more than a month.

However, Bitcoin failed to hold that level and declined to $64,000 by Friday. ETF outflows also returned late in the week. Investors withdrew $225.18 million from the products on Thursday and another $240 million on Friday.

As a result, the week still ended in positive territory, but only modestly. Net inflows for the period totaled $33.79 million. The late-week pullback mirrored the broader relationship between ETF flows and spot prices, where investor activity in the funds has tended to move in step with Bitcoin's short-term price direction.

Ethereum ETFs Continue to Attract Larger Inflows

The relative strength of spot Ethereum ETFs, a trend that began two weeks earlier, continued during the latest reporting period. The funds recorded almost $104 million in net inflows for the week, a figure that surpassed the Bitcoin products' weekly total despite Ethereum ETFs holding a significantly smaller cumulative asset base.

Only one day finished in the red for the Ethereum products, with investors withdrawing $70.62 million on Friday. Before that, inflows reached $38.09 million on Monday, $37.47 million on Tuesday, $72.64 million on Wednesday, and $26.32 million on Thursday.

Ethereum's price also moved higher during the week, rising above $1,900 and reaching a peak just above $1,950. The asset later lost momentum and declined by about $100 across Friday and Saturday.

Total net inflows into spot Ethereum ETFs have recovered by more than $200 million over the past three weeks. Even so, they remain well below the $12.09 billion level recorded in May. The sustained Ethereum inflow streak, set against narrowing Bitcoin fund flows, highlights how investor positioning across the two largest digital assets has diverged in recent weeks.
