Sen. Bernie Moreno Tells Reporters to Stop Asking About Rep. Max Miller, Citing Family Situation

Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) has forcefully pushed back against continued press questioning regarding his call for his son-in-law, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), to resign from office. Moreno previously urged Miller's resignation over allegations that Miller physically assaulted Moreno's daughter, Emily, on multiple occasions, and on at least one instance also struck Moreno's two-year-old granddaughter.

The dispute pits two Ohio Republicans with close ties to President Donald Trump against each other in an unusually public and personal conflict. Moreno, a wealthy former luxury auto dealer, won his Senate seat in 2024 with Trump's endorsement. Miller, who represents Ohio's 7th Congressional District, previously served as a senior aide in the Trump White House before launching his own congressional career, also backed by Trump.

Trump's allies — and reportedly Trump himself — have begun echoing Moreno's call for Miller to step down.

On Monday, Politico's Burgess Everett reported on X that Moreno had grown visibly frustrated with reporters' continued questions on the matter. According to Everett, Moreno took particular issue with being asked why it took him so long to issue a public statement.

Everett quoted Moreno directly: "I hope you never have to go through this situation, because you wouldn't ask that kind of f----- question."

When Everett pressed Moreno on why Miller has not followed his advice to resign, the senator responded, "You'll have to ask him." Moreno characterized the situation as a "pretty grotesque" example of a "personal family situation."

The exchange followed Moreno's detailed statement posted on X the previous day, in which he described the toll the ordeal has taken on his family.

"As a father and husband, I can tell you the last two years have been pure hell for my wife Bridget, our daughter Emily, me, and our entire family in the aftermath of Emily's divorce," Moreno wrote.

He continued: "It has been horrific to watch this play out in full public view, all while knowing an innocent two-year-old girl is caught in the middle. Our priority has always been protecting our daughter and our granddaughter. Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller's increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible."

Moreno further stated: "As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter."

Rep. Miller issued his own statement on Sunday categorically denying the allegations.

"Accusations dominate headlines while far too little attention has been paid to the facts," Miller said. "I've been portrayed as an abusive husband, an abusive father, and a violent man. Those allegations have damaged my reputation, caused enormous pain to my family, and most importantly, it's affected our daughter. Today, I'm on here because I've received dozens of interview requests about this topic, but I've learned from the two that I have already done that the truth will not come out that way."
