Canal+ has secured exclusive rights across all languages to UEFA Men's club competitions in Sub-Saharan Africa for four seasons, running from mid-2027 to 2031.

The agreement grants the pay-TV group's subscribers across more than 40 countries exclusive access to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League. The tournaments feature leading clubs from England, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Portugal, along with prominent players including Victor Osimhen, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Lamine Yamal, and Harry Kane.

SuperSport will retain and strengthen its existing exclusive coverage of the tournaments in English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa. However, the deal significantly reshapes the market in French-speaking Africa. Canal+ Sport regains full Champions League coverage and, for the first time, obtains exclusive French-language rights to the Europa League and Conference League. Those rights were previously held by Togo-based broadcaster New World TV, which will effectively exit the market beginning with the 2027/28 season.

Canal+ Expands Football Portfolio

The newly acquired rights complement an extensive football lineup already available across SuperSport and Canal+ Sport, which includes the Betway Premiership, the Premier League, LaLiga EA Sports, Ligue 1, and the TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026. Canal+ stated that the agreement, negotiated with UC3, further solidifies its standing as the region's premier sports broadcaster.

Maxime Saada, Chief Executive Officer of Canal+, described the deal as a testament to the strength of the group's sports offering across the continent.

"We are very proud of this new partnership, which gives us exclusive rights to all UEFA Men's Club competitions across more than 40 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa," Saada said. He added that subscribers would enjoy "the biggest matches" across all three competitions for four consecutive seasons.

Saada also expressed gratitude to UC3 and Relevent for extending their partnership with Canal+, noting similar rights agreements the pair had previously secured in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, and Austria.

The consolidation follows Canal+'s acquisition of MultiChoice, which brought SuperSport's English- and Portuguese-language rights under the same corporate umbrella as Canal+ Sport's Francophone operations. The acquisition was one of the largest media transactions in African history, restructuring a competitive landscape in which SuperSport and Canal+ had previously operated as separate forces across different language markets. The UEFA agreement represents the first major sports rights deal completed under the combined ownership structure, and effectively closes gaps that previously allowed a smaller regional player such as New World TV to compete for French-language broadcasting rights.
