BNB Chain Spot DEX Volume Nears Base as Short-Term Activity Pulls Ahead
Key Takeaways
- •BNB Chain recorded $22.601 billion in 30-day spot DEX volume, trailing Base's $24.505 billion by less than $2 billion as of recent DefiLlama data.
- •BNB Chain surpassed Base on shorter timeframes, posting $954.7 million in 24-hour DEX volume compared to Base's $638.81 million.
- •PancakeSwap accounted for approximately 71% of BNB Chain's $6.05 billion daily DEX volume on October 7, 2025, highlighting significant concentration risk.
- •BNB Chain reached its highest-ever monthly DEX volume of over $165 billion following the Maxwell upgrade in June 2025, far exceeding current levels.
- •Base's DEX activity has been characterized by momentum-driven bursts from token launches, while BNB Chain has shown more consistent daily liquidity across recent periods.

BNB Chain’s 30-day spot decentralized exchange trading volume is approaching that of Base, with the Binance-affiliated blockchain recording $22.601 billion over the period, according to DefiLlama data. Base, the Coinbase-backed network, remained ahead at $24.505 billion, leaving a gap of less than $2 billion.
On shorter timeframes, however, BNB Chain has already moved ahead of Base. Its 24-hour DEX volume stood at $954.7 million, compared with $638.81 million on Base. Over seven days, BNB Chain recorded $6.025 billion in spot DEX volume, ahead of Base’s $5.067 billion.
The figures indicate that BNB Chain’s more recent trading activity has been stronger than Base’s, while the remaining 30-day difference reflects earlier trading days that are still included in the monthly window. DEX volume is widely tracked as a barometer of on-chain economic engagement, since it captures real user swaps rather than speculative metrics.
BNB Chain and Base compete for retail trading flows
Both networks are competing for retail trading activity supported by low transaction fees and deep liquidity pools. As EVM-compatible chains backed by two of crypto’s largest centralized exchanges — Binance and Coinbase — BNB Chain and Base increasingly target overlapping developer and user communities. BNB Chain has generally produced sustained monthly trading volumes, while Base has seen episodic surges that have at times lifted its DEX activity above larger networks, including Ethereum.
That pattern appeared earlier this year. In January, Base briefly surpassed both Ethereum and BNB Chain in seven-day DEX volume, reaching approximately $16.5 billion. During the same period, BNB Chain recorded about $15.6 billion. BSC later regained its position in the weeks that followed.
PancakeSwap remains central to BNB Chain activity
A large share of BSC’s DEX volume continues to flow through PancakeSwap. The decentralized exchange has served as BNB Chain’s flagship trading venue since 2021, and it remains a dominant source of activity on the network.
On October 7, 2025, PancakeSwap accounted for roughly $4.29 billion of BNB Chain’s $6.05 billion in daily DEX volume. That represented about 71% of all spot trades on the chain going through a single platform.
BNB Chain’s broader ecosystem also received a significant boost from the Maxwell upgrade, which was rolled out in June 2025. After that upgrade, the chain posted its highest-ever monthly DEX volume at more than $165 billion, far above the current $22.6 billion 30-day figure.
Liquidity patterns and ecosystem structure
For traders, the current data shows BNB Chain offering more consistent daily liquidity across recent periods. Base’s activity has been characterized by momentum-driven bursts, often associated with new token launches or memecoin cycles within the Coinbase ecosystem.
BNB, the native token of Binance’s chain, is directly affected by increased on-chain activity through fee burns and staking demand. At the same time, BSC’s reliance on PancakeSwap highlights concentration risk within its DEX ecosystem. Base, by contrast, is gradually developing a more diversified DEX environment with multiple competing protocols.
