Virtual power plant (VPP) company Base Power said it has raised $1 billion in Series D financing and will now expand into residential battery manufacturing. The company said its home energy storage system, Base Core, will be produced in Austin, Texas.
Base Core is a 39.2-kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery system with a 12-year lifetime. It carries UL 1973 and UL 9540 certifications.

Base Power currently operates a battery fleet of more than 500 MWh in Texas and Illinois through VPP contracts. The company said it is already producing thousands of Base Core units per month in Austin and will initially focus on selling the product in Texas and Illinois. For customers and utilities alike, the combination of home storage and VPP participation is part of a broader grid-flexibility model that has been gaining traction as more distributed energy resources come online.
Base Power said it has raised more than $2.5 billion in capital to date. The latest funding will be used to bring Base Core to more homes, expand nationally and hire talent.
