Visa (V) Partners With Mesh to Enable Crypto and Stablecoin Spending at 175 Million Merchants

Visa (V) has partnered with crypto payments firm Mesh to let users spend cryptocurrency and stablecoin balances — tokens pegged to fiat currencies such as the U.S. dollar — at more than 175 million merchant locations, according to a joint announcement published on Oct. 19.

The service will make digital asset balances spendable anywhere Visa is accepted, straight from the wallet applications people already use. No separate card is required, and no cash-out step is needed before paying.

Mesh confirmed the collaboration in a post on X:

How the Visa and Mesh Service Works

Payments will work in stores and online through a Visa credential created behind the scenes, so no separate card needs to be issued. Users will not need to sell or move their assets first. Mesh will handle funding and conversion at the moment of payment, with balances able to come from crypto, stablecoin, or fiat.

Merchants will keep getting paid through Visa's existing network and will not need new hardware or changes to checkout. They will not receive crypto directly; Mesh performs the conversion so payments clear on the regular card network.

Wallet providers can switch on the service through a single Mesh integration. Mesh will act as program manager, running onboarding and know-your-customer checks for users.

The service covers more than 200 countries and territories. Visa processed $14.2 trillion in payment volume in fiscal 2025. The companies gave no launch date.

Executive Commentary

Mesh CEO Bam Azizi said crypto "never had a spending problem, it has a last-mile problem," adding that the old fix was getting a separate card. He framed the partnership as closing the gap between holding digital assets and spending them in everyday commerce.

Rubail Birwadker, Visa's global head of growth, said the deal gives consumers more ways to use digital asset balances.

Visa's Stablecoin Push

The deal lands as stablecoin-linked card usage accelerates across Visa's network. Visa said more than 160 stablecoin card programs were running in its fiscal second quarter of 2026, with payment volume across them rising nearly 200% from a year earlier. Its stablecoin settlement business has passed an annualized rate of $20 billion, and an October update showed card payments still growing at about 200% a year.

Earlier this year, Visa teamed up with Mercuryo to convert crypto to fiat and send it to cards. It also signed an exploratory deal with the ADI Foundation in October.

Mesh's Growth Trajectory

Mesh has been assembling payments partnerships throughout 2026. The company raised $75 million in a Series C round in January, valuing it at $1 billion, joined Paxos's Global Dollar Network in May, and launched its Alliance Program in June. It plugged into Bybit Pay in September, and Bybit says it serves about 80 million users.

Crypto.com estimated 774 million crypto owners worldwide by June. Spending is still small, with crypto card volume near $1.5 billion a month late in 2025. Paymentscan data showed stablecoin card spending passed $10.9 billion by August 2026, with July topping $1 billion, a record at the time.

Mesh has not said which coins will be eligible. Supported devices, wallets, and the start date are still pending, and the company said it will announce them as rollout plans are finalized.
