Uniswap Extends VolatilePair Dynamic-Fee Hook to Robinhood Chain

Author: CryptoNewsNet·

Key Takeaways

  • •The Robinhood Chain pool pairs ETH with USDG, a Paxos-issued dollar stablecoin, rather than USDC.
  • •VolatilePair adjusts permanent fees according to recent ETH price movements and may add charges for reversals or within-block activity.
  • •As of Nov. 2, the pool showed about $3.5 million in locked value and $24.9 million in daily volume.
  • •The Robinhood pool’s initial combined directional fee spread was 2 basis points, compared with 8 basis points for the Ethereum pool.
  • •A 50,000 USDG liquidity-rewards allocation is scheduled to run from Oct. 30 through Nov. 12.
Uniswap Extends VolatilePair Dynamic-Fee Hook to Robinhood Chain

Uniswap has extended its VolatilePair dynamic-fee hook to Robinhood Chain, giving liquidity providers an $ETH/$USDG pool that sets the fees for buying and selling $ETH independently. The expansion was announced on Nov. 2.

The pool was initialized onchain on Oct. 29 at 7:28 p.m. ET, and its transaction records already include a completed swap, confirming that the new fee mechanism is processing trades.

Early activity on the pool has been notable relative to its size. At roughly 10:11 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, Uniswap's Robinhood pool page showed about $3.5 million in total value locked alongside $24.9 million in 24-hour volume. The Ethereum $ETH/$USDC VolatilePair pool, which Uniswap unveiled on Oct. 14, held more capital — around $4.5 million — but recorded less daily trading, at $7.4 million, in figures reported around 10:12 a.m. ET the same day. That amounts to roughly seven times its locked value in daily turnover on Robinhood Chain, versus under two times for the Ethereum pool.

Different Fees for Buyers and Sellers

VolatilePair is built as a hook — a customizable smart contract that lets developers override a Uniswap pool's default behavior, including how fees are charged. It departs from static-fee pools, which charge an identical rate in either direction, by recalculating fees from recent pool-price movements. When the pool price of $ETH rises, the permanent buying fee increases while the selling fee falls by the same amount; a declining price triggers the reverse adjustment.

A separate temporary charge applies to trades that reverse a price move, and additional fees can accrue as prices move within a single block. According to Uniswap's technical documentation, the algorithm reads the pool price, block number and trade direction — not the trade amount.

The design is intended to help liquidity providers retain more of the value otherwise captured by traders exploiting price differences. For traders, the practical consequence is that buying and selling can carry different costs, and a reversal trade may incur an extra charge.

The Robinhood pool was configured with a resting spread — the combined total of its two permanent directional fees — of 2 basis points (0.02%), compared with 8 basis points (0.08%) on the Ethereum pool. At the neutral starting point, that equals 1 basis point per direction on Robinhood versus 4 on Ethereum, before any temporary or within-block additions. These figures come from the pools' initialization records and the hook's fee configuration definitions.

The expansion also swaps out the dollar asset users trade against. Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2, pairs $ETH with $USDG instead of $USDC; the stablecoin forms the dollar side of every trade on the pool. $USDG is a dollar stablecoin issued by Paxos, which says the token is redeemable one-for-one for U.S. dollars.

Uniswap Labs sets the initial pool configuration, while Uniswap governance controls subsequent parameter changes and hook upgrades. The Robinhood pool page also lists a 50,000 $USDG liquidity-rewards allocation covering Oct. 30 through Nov. 12. The combination of a dated rewards program and governance-controlled parameters gives observers concrete onchain markers for tracking how the new deployment evolves.
