Uniqlo is drawing inspiration from modern city living for its Fall/Winter Lifewear collection, a lineup designed for everyday versatility that reimagines wardrobe essentials to meet the evolving demands of lifestyles in motion — rain or shine.

Lifewear is the core design philosophy of Uniqlo — the flagship apparel brand of Japan’s Fast Retailing Co. — built around simple, well-made clothing intended for daily life rather than passing trends.

The brand presented the new collection on Aug. 11 at the Palacio de Memoria in Parañaque, where guests braved a storm to attend the preview. The wet weather was fitting for the timing: in the Philippines, the rainy season typically runs from June to November. Uniqlo, which entered the Philippine market in 2012 with its first store in Manila, has since expanded its presence nationwide. Seven celebrity endorsers joined the event: Alexa Ilacad, Anthony Constantino, Emilio Daez, Kianna Dy, Matteo Guidicelli, Solenn Heussaff, and the brand’s newest endorser, Anne Curtis.

A collection built on comfort and function

The items on display featured an assortment of colors, textures, and silhouettes oriented toward comfort, functionality, and timeless style.

The collection’s bottoms include the Baggy Barrel Leg Jeans, a popular option for their relaxed barrel-cut silhouette; the EZY Wide Straight Jeans, which offer the look of denim but the feel of putting on sweats; and the Culotte lineup, which showcases a genderless cut for both girls and guys to style.

Outerwear stole the show. The Harrington Jacket features a sleek cotton-polyester blend that is flexible and perfect for layering; the Denim Trucker Jacket offers the best of denim; and the Coverall exemplifies utility wear, with plenty of pockets and not too much weight.

The Fleece line displays a lightweight and comfortable quality, providing maximum warmth with none of the unwanted bulk.

Alongside Uniqlo’s signature Sport Utility Wear for those with more active pursuits, the collection also presents knits as everyday wear. The Souffle Yarn Knits, made from extra fine merino wool, highlight cozy warmth, while the Smooth Cotton Knits serve as a comfortable cotton equivalent.

This season’s versatile Loungewear and Innerwear lines continue to provide stay-in clothes, along with the functionality and style to be worn outside. By mixing and matching pieces from these collections, Uniqlo aims to deliver “refined, versatile, and functional everyday wear for seamless shifting.”

Anne Curtis in two looks

Anne Curtis showcased the collection’s versatility through two distinct looks, aiming to bring her own playful take on modern city style to the preview.

Her first outfit layered a Zip Up Short Jacket over a JW Anderson Boxy Oxford Long Sleeve Shirt and a Ribbed Henley Neck Long Sleeve T-Shirt, paired with Baggy Barrel Leg Jeans for a relaxed, comfortable look. The JW Anderson pieces come from the label founded by Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson, whose ongoing collaboration with Uniqlo began in 2017 and pairs British design details with Lifewear’s focus on functional basics.

“It’s pretty chill, relaxed, and for someone like me who gets cold easily, even in Manila, it’s perfect for me,” she said. “As you can see, I’m not even sweating. It’s comfy, it’s perfect, and it’s fluffy.”

Ms. Curtis later changed her outfit, putting on a Fluffy Yarn Fleece Full-Zip Jacket, a Milano Ribbed Full-Zip Cardigan, and Baggy Barrel Leg Jeans, mixing relaxed silhouettes with refined details.

Flexibility as the guiding principle

“These are silhouettes that are flexible for everyone,” said Uniqlo Philippines marketing director Jan Ang at the event. “We focus on functionality and layering. Lifewear is about timeless pieces that are basically everyday essentials.”

During the discussion with all the celebrity endorsers, Ms. Ilacad singled out her AIRism Bra Sleeveless Top — built on Uniqlo’s proprietary AIRism fabric, engineered for breathability and quick-drying comfort — which she said she could “layer with everything in her daily life.” That day, she wore it with the JW Anderson Oxford Boxy Long Sleeve Shirt, a Windproof Stand Blouson, and a Pleated Skort.

Ms. Heussaff recommended “investing in pieces to keep for a long time.” Her ensemble was made up of a Coated Relaxed Shirt Jacket, a HEATTECH Extra Warm Cashmere Blend Turtleneck T-Shirt, and Smart Culottes. HEATTECH, developed with Japanese textile maker Toray Industries, is designed to retain warmth in thin, lightweight fabric.

“I don’t really follow trends, but I believe that whatever makes you confident, trendy or not, will make you feel comfortable. With Uniqlo, it’s easy to mix and match,” she said.

Mr. Guidicelli, who named a Cashmere Crew Neck Sweater as his go-to piece this season and paired it with a JW Anderson Denim Long Sleeve Shirt and Slim Chino Pants, explained that shifting your fashion style as you mature is natural.

“You have to start investing in premium items to rewear, reuse, and restyle,” he said. — Brontë H. Lacsamana
