President Donald Trump has been caught up in an unusual arrangement involving his Secret Service detail, his own golf course, and his well-documented enthusiasm for hot dogs, according to a new report from Forbes.

At the Trump National Golf Club outside Washington, D.C., a snack shack beside the 11th tee box sells hot dogs that Trump reportedly loves, and the president enjoys playing the role of generous host to the agents protecting him, Forbes reported Monday.

“He has this weird, very odd pride about how good the hot dogs are,” a former club employee told Forbes. “The chef has to be out there. And he’s like, ‘Chef, get everyone a hot dog—all these guys.”

Forbes portrayed the scale of Trump's affection for the hot dogs in grandiose terms.

"On Trump’s personal scale of human achievement," the magazine wrote, "[the wieners] probably rank somewhere between mankind’s first glimpse of gold in a riverbed and the construction of Trump Tower."

But there is a catch to the president's hospitality, as Forbes senior editor Dan Alexander explained in a post to his followers on X (https://x.com/DanAlexander21/status/2096910997445325140): the hot dogs are not actually a gift from Trump, because he does not pay for them himself.

"Trump is obsessed with the hot dogs at one of his golf courses," Alexander wrote (). "So obsessed that he orders one for everyone around him, including his Secret Service detail. Then, according to a former employee, the club bills the Secret Service for the hot dogs."

The report adds to a broader pattern of scrutiny over the financial relationship between Trump's businesses and federal agencies. Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, is one of several clubs the president frequents, and taxpayer-funded agencies such as the Secret Service have previously faced questions about expenditures at properties owned by the president's family business, the Trump Organization, during his time in office. Past reporting has documented Secret Service spending at Trump properties on items such as golf cart rentals and lodging for agents accompanying the president on his frequent trips to his own clubs, and congressional Democrats have repeatedly sought more detailed accounting of how much agency money flows to Trump-owned venues.

Under the Constitution's Emoluments Clause, federal officials are barred from accepting payments from foreign governments without congressional approval, a provision that has been central to past debates over payments to Trump businesses. The hot dog episode, while small in dollar terms, is likely to reinforce calls from watchdog groups for fuller disclosure of agency spending at properties owned by the sitting president, a demand that has followed Trump across both of his administrations.
