Tesla has confirmed that its Semi electric truck will enter the European market, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. The announcement was made at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hannover, Germany, where Tesla also introduced regional web pages detailing the truck’s specifications, design updates, and features.

A July shareholder update stated that full Semi production is now planned for 2026, replacing an earlier target for volume production during this year. That production timeline comes before the planned 2027 European deliveries, linking the market launch to Tesla’s ability to move from limited U.S. deliveries to higher-volume output.

Semi Performance and Operating Costs
The Semi uses a multi-motor drivetrain. One torque axle is designed to handle heavy pulling at low speeds, while an efficiency axle supports operation at highway speeds. Tesla has replaced traditional hydraulic steering with a fully electric power-steering system, which the company says makes it easier to integrate Autopilot features.
Data from pilot trucks covering more than 13.5 million miles shows average energy consumption of between 1.55 and 1.7 kWh per mile during commercial freight testing at highway speeds. The truck’s drag coefficient of approximately 0.4 also helps limit energy use.
Tesla says the Semi costs about 50% less to operate per mile than a diesel truck in high-fuel-cost states such as California, and approximately 20% less on a nationwide basis.
Tesla is entering an established European truck market where several major manufacturers already sell battery-powered heavy-duty models.
