Tesla Keeps Bitcoin Holdings Unchanged at 11,509 BTC in Q2 2026

Tesla reported no changes to its Bitcoin holdings in the second quarter of 2026, extending one of the longest uninterrupted BTC holding periods among major public companies.

The electric vehicle maker did not discuss Bitcoin at length during its latest earnings call. However, the lack of any reported transaction indicated that its position remained unchanged at 11,509 BTC, keeping Tesla among the largest publicly traded corporate holders of the cryptocurrency.

Tesla Leaves BTC Position Untouched

Tesla first entered the Bitcoin market in early 2021 with a $1.5 billion purchase, one of the most prominent corporate crypto investments announced at the time. The company later sold 10% of its holdings, saying it wanted to test Bitcoin’s liquidity, before selling 75% of its remaining position during the 2022 bear market.

At that time, Elon Musk said Tesla needed to strengthen its cash position amid rising economic uncertainty. Since then, the Musk-led company has stopped buying or selling Bitcoin and has continued to report the same 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet.

Quarter after quarter, Tesla’s Bitcoin position has remained unchanged despite rallies, corrections, new all-time highs, and periods of significant volatility in the cryptocurrency market. That consistency has made Tesla one of the few large corporate BTC holders whose approach has not shifted for more than three years, making its quarterly filings and balance-sheet disclosures a closely watched reference point for corporate Bitcoin treasury activity.

Another Musk-linked company, SpaceX, has also recently kept its Bitcoin holdings largely unchanged. The latest SEC filing before its IPO showed that SpaceX still owns 18,712 BTC. However, the company made a small transfer in early July, prompting some speculation and FUD, though the transaction did not lead to any broader development.

Tesla and Bitcoin Market Capitalizations Remain Close

While Tesla has maintained its cryptocurrency holdings, its market capitalization remains close to Bitcoin’s. Data from CompaniesMarketCap shows that both assets are positioned just outside the top 10 by market value.

Bitcoin’s current market capitalization stands at $1.310 trillion, placing it in 13th position, well below its previous peak ranking of sixth. Tesla closed Friday with a market capitalization of $1.262 trillion, one spot below Bitcoin. Meta Platforms and SpaceX are also among the entities sitting just outside the top 10.

The comparison highlights how Bitcoin is increasingly measured alongside the world’s largest public companies and private technology firms by market value, even though it remains a decentralized asset rather than an operating business. For Tesla, future quarterly reports remain the main source for confirming whether its long-running Bitcoin position changes.
