Techstars, the accelerator network founded in Boulder, Colorado in 2006, has begun accepting applications for its Spring 2027 accelerator programmes, with each accepted startup receiving a $220,000 investment together with mentorship, investor access and further support. The application window opened on August 24 and runs until November 18. Techstars announced the opening on its official applications page.
Aimed at early-stage startups, the programmes deliver three months of intensive mentorship, access to Techstars' worldwide network of founders, investors and corporate partners, and a range of startup perks.
Under Techstars' current investment package, startups receive $200,000 through an uncapped Most Favoured Nation (MFN) Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) plus $20,000 through a Post-Money Convertible Equity Agreement. The SAFE, an instrument introduced by Y Combinator in 2013 that has since become a common early-stage funding tool, defers setting a company valuation until a future financing round. The accelerator takes at least 5% common equity under the $20,000 agreement, while the $200,000 SAFE may convert into further equity depending on the terms of a company's subsequent financing.
Among the programmes now accepting applications is Techstars AI Health Baltimore, which targets startups using artificial intelligence to improve healthcare delivery, affordability, access and patient outcomes. The Baltimore initiative is supported by a collaboration that includes Johns Hopkins, CareFirst BlueCross Blue Shield, MedStar Health, the University of Maryland Baltimore and the University of Maryland Medical System, the kind of institutional partnership through which Techstars runs many of its sector-focused accelerators.
Founders in the programme, Techstars said, can gain access to clinical environments, healthcare operational models, payer and reimbursement insights, regulatory expertise and commercialisation pathways.
The Spring 2027 accelerator programmes are scheduled to begin on March 8, 2027, with Demo Day set for June 3. Applicants can begin an application year-round, Techstars notes, but submissions arriving after the listed deadline are moved into a general pool and may not be considered at the same time as those filed before the deadline.
According to information on its application platform, the accelerator has backed more than 3,200 companies, and its current accelerator offering provides founders with funding, mentorship and access to its global network. Interested startups can apply through Techstars' official website.
