Tata Motors Faces JLR Pressure as LG Electronics India and Honasa Consumer Post Strong Q1 Growth

Thursday's earnings season delivered a mixed picture, with Tata Motors facing pressure from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the UK-based luxury vehicle arm it acquired in 2008 and a major contributor to its consolidated earnings, while LG Electronics India and Honasa Consumer reported strong growth.

The two consumer-facing gainers cover different ends of the market: LG Electronics India is the local unit of South Korean appliances and electronics maker LG Electronics, while Honasa Consumer is the parent of personal-care brand Mamaearth. Their growth, set against Tata Motors' JLR pressure, illustrates how demand is diverging across sectors in the first quarter.

IGL, Max Healthcare, KRBL, GIC Re and Sansera Engineering also reported key first-quarter developments. With the earnings season still under way, these results add to the quarter's unfolding picture across autos, consumer goods, healthcare, energy, food processing, reinsurance and auto components.
