Swire Shipping will fully integrate its specialist project and heavy lift business, Swire Projects, into the main Swire Shipping brand from November, while also making further investments in the multipurpose fleet that supports the operation.

The move reflects a broader pattern among shipping groups of consolidating sub-brands under a single umbrella to simplify customer offerings and cross-sell services across liner, logistics and specialist cargo segments.

The Singapore-headquartered company has agreed to acquire four of the six multipurpose heavylift vessels currently operated by Swire Projects under lease arrangements with Nordic Project & Finance. The remaining two vessels will be chartered by Swire for a further two years, a move designed to maintain capacity and continuity for customers while providing the business with greater fleet stability.

The integration brings Swire's liner shipping, logistics, project cargo and heavylift activities under a single brand.

"Over the last six years, Swire Projects has built a strong reputation in the project and heavylift cargo sector," said Namir Khanbabi, general manager, projects, Swire Shipping.

Khanbabi said the integration would allow closer alignment with Swire's liner shipping and landside logistics operations, particularly across the Asia Pacific region.

The fleet investment also strengthens Swire's exposure to cargoes tied to renewables, mining, construction, infrastructure, oil and gas, power generation and offshore projects. Demand in the multipurpose and heavylift segment is closely tied to infrastructure and energy development cycles, and owning rather than leasing tonnage gives operators more direct control over deployment decisions.

The rollout of the unified brand from November will be a point to watch for customers with project cargo commitments, as booking channels and service arrangements move under the Swire Shipping name.
