Sui Records 40.6 Million TPS in Live Tunnel Test, Breaking Its Own Speed Record
Key Takeaways
- β’Sui recorded a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live stress test at Sui Basecamp in Singapore on October 7, exceeding its 20 million TPS target.
- β’The new peak is more than six times the approximately 6.1 million TPS that Sui's tunnels reached in a July test.
- β’More than 10,000 programmable tunnels opened on Sui mainnet during the demonstration, carrying payments, gaming, and chat activity that ran offchain and settled to the blockchain.
- β’CertiK served as the independent auditor for the test and is reviewing proofs and execution logs, with its full report expected in the coming days.
- β’Mysten Labs positions the network for AI agent commerce, building on its September 2025 role as a launch partner for Google's Agentic Payments Protocol and its native USDsui stablecoin issued by Stripe subsidiary Bridge.

Sui, the layer-1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, recorded a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second (TPS) during a live stress test of its programmable offchain tunnels, surpassing the 20 million TPS target the network had set for the event.
The demonstration took place on Wednesday, October 7, at Sui Basecamp in Singapore. Details of result were published on Sui's official blog. The company framed the milestone as the highest verified throughput settled to a blockchain, a description rooted in the offchain design at the center of the test.
The new record builds on an earlier test in July, when Sui's tunnels reached approximately 6.1 million TPS, making the latest peak more than six times higher.
A world record. 40,614,180 transactions per second. Live at Sui Basecamp, independently analyzed by @CertiK. AI agents paid, played, and chatted in programmable tunnels. Executed offchain, settled on Sui. Sui is ready for the agentic economy.

How the Tunnels Work
Sui's tunnels are programmable channels that settle to the main blockchain once closed. Opening and closing a tunnel each require one onchain transaction, while all activity in between takes place offchain. This structure allows users to complete many transactions without sending each one directly to the blockchain.
More than 10,000 tunnels opened on Sui mainnet during the test, carrying payments, games, and chat activity. According to Sui, closed tunnels are cosigned by participants and can be checked onchain afterward, keeping a record of activity even though the transactions themselves happen offchain.
Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun led the test and posted about the milestone from the conference.
the moment #Sui made history by breaking the world record with 40M TPS π₯ if you missed this at #SuiBasecamp, you need to see it

Abiodun said the network is built for a future in which AI agents handle large volumes of daily transactions.
"No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don't move that fast," Abiodun said. "Agents do."
CertiK served as the independent auditor for the test. The firm is reviewing proofs, execution logs, and other supporting data, with a report expected in the coming days to lay out the findings of that review.
Ties to Google Payments Protocol and USDsui Stablecoin
The record test ties into Sui's broader work on agentic payments. In September 2025, Sui became a launch partner for Google's Agentic Payments Protocol, an open standard that lets AI agents make payments on behalf of users. Mysten Labs said its role includes supplying payment infrastructure for autonomous agents, with uses including paywall access and automated purchases. The Basecamp demonstration put those flows into live practice, with AI agents paying, playing, and chatting inside tunnels as their activity settled to the chain.
The company has also described identity tools for agent use, including cryptographic identifiers and context wallets, meant to let users keep control of their data while agents act for them.
Sui also operates a native stablecoin called USDsui, launched on March 4. Bridge, a Stripe subsidiary, issues the token through its Open Issuance platform. USDsui supports payments, cross-border transfers, and remittances on Sui, and is used for lending, trading, and liquidity across decentralized finance applications on the network.
The network recorded more than $111 billion in stablecoin transfers in January 2026 alone, a figure that reflects the value of transfers on the network that month.
U.S. investors can also gain exposure to SUI through exchange-traded funds. Canary Capital's SUIS and Grayscale's GSUI both began trading in February, holding SUI tokens directly and staking them for rewards. Coinbase added SUI staking for customers in July, with estimated annual rewards between 1.4% and 3.3%.
CertiK's full review of the October test data remains pending.
