Strategy Sets New Bitcoin Holdings Record After $143 Million Weekly Purchase

Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and the company formerly known as MicroStrategy, added 1,665 BTC to its treasury between September 21 and September 27, paying $142.7 million for the coins and lifting its total Bitcoin holdings to a record 847,666 BTC.

According to a Monday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company paid an average of $85,681 per coin. Its total holdings now stand at 847,666 BTC, acquired for an aggregate $63.95 billion at an average price of $75,437 per Bitcoin—meaning the latest batch was bought at roughly a 13.6% premium to the average cost of the company's overall position. The disclosure continues Strategy's practice of reporting its treasury activity in weekly 8-K filings, the documents public companies use to flag material events for investors.

The latest acquisition capped a week in which Strategy balanced Bitcoin purchases with continued buybacks of its preferred stock, repurchasing $151.7 million of its STRC preferred shares over the same period.

The company confirmed the moves in a post on X:

Strategy has acquired 1,665 $BTC and repurchased $152M of $STRC. As of 9/27/26, we hold 847,666 BTC and $6.02B of USD Assets. $MSTR

The purchase pushes Strategy above its previous record of 847,363 BTC, which was reported on June 22, according to BitcoinTreasuries. The company subsequently sold Bitcoin over the summer before resuming purchases in August.

Funding through common stock sales

Strategy's latest purchase was funded with proceeds from sales of MSTR common stock under its at-the-market offering program, an arrangement that lets a company sell newly issued shares into the open market over time rather than in a single block. The company sold 1.47 million MSTR shares during the week, generating $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of that total, $142.7 million went toward Bitcoin purchases and $103.5 million was used to repurchase STRC preferred stock.

STRC buybacks continue

Alongside the Bitcoin purchase, Strategy repurchased 1.53 million shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, which trades under the ticker STRC, for $151.7 million.

The company has now spent hundreds of millions of dollars buying back STRC, taking advantage of the preferred stock trading below its stated amount—buybacks that shrink the outstanding preferred share count at a discount. Its latest filing says $723.5 million remains available under its digital credit securities repurchase program.

Strategy has previously described STRC repurchases as part of its broader capital-allocation strategy. Last week, the firm proposed daily dividend accrual on its preferred stock—including STRF, STRC, SREK and STRD—in a bid to dampen volatility.

The latest purchases follow a summer in which Strategy sold Bitcoin and built up its dollar reserves. The company sold 6,948 BTC between May and August, according to previous disclosures, before beginning to rebuild its holdings.

$6.02 billion in dollar assets

Strategy also reported $6.02 billion in USD assets as of September 27. According to the 8-K, the figure consists of a $5.02 billion USD Reserve and $1 billion of USD Cash.

The USD Reserve is a dedicated dollar fund maintained to cover dividends on the company's preferred stock and interest on its debt, while USD Cash is a separate pool established last month that can be used for Bitcoin purchases, adding to the reserve and other capital-management purposes.

During the latest week, Strategy used $48.1 million of USD Cash to fund STRC repurchases and drew $22.1 million from its USD Reserve to pay preferred-stock dividends.

The cash position gives Strategy another source of capital as it manages its Bitcoin holdings, preferred-stock obligations and common-stock issuance. The company has previously said its capital framework allows it to sell up to $1.25 billion worth of Bitcoin to fund its USD Reserve, preferred-stock dividends and interest expenses, as well as repurchases of MSTR or its preferred securities. Combined with the $723.5 million left on the buyback authorization, those pools give the company clearly defined capacity for repurchases, dividend payments and potential further purchases in upcoming weekly disclosures.

For now, however, the latest weekly disclosure shows Strategy buying rather than selling Bitcoin for a second consecutive week—and with 847,666 BTC on its balance sheet, the company holds more Bitcoin than at any previous point its history.
