Real estate investment trust STAG Industrial has energized three new rooftop solar projects across Pennsylvania, marking another significant step in the company’s deployment of distributed solar. Developed by Dimension Energy, an Atlanta-based developer of commercial-scale solar projects, and facilitated by Black Bear Energy, a Boulder, Colorado-based firm that helps commercial property owners procure onsite renewable energy, the projects further expand STAG’s implementation of onsite and distributed solar across its extensive nationwide portfolio.

The new installations bring STAG’s hosted onsite solar to 49.5 MW across 29 properties in 10 states. The three Pennsylvania rooftops total 9 MW and include one installation at a distribution warehouse in O’Hara Township, Pennsylvania. They join a three-rooftop, 2.7-MW community solar portfolio in New Jersey and three Maryland community solar projects totaling 11.6 MW. STAG has also completed installations in Massachusetts and throughout the Northeast, building on earlier rooftop solar projects the company hosted on the East Coast.

“STAG remains committed to deploying distributed solar solutions that drive both economic and environmental benefits,” said Brian LaMont, STAG’s SVP of development and sustainability. “Hosting rooftop solar not only aligns with our broader sustainability strategy but also supports state and regional decarbonization goals, delivering low-cost energy to local communities while advancing Pennsylvania’s clean energy future.”

STAG Industrial is headquartered in Boston and listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker STAG. The company owns and operates a nationwide portfolio of single-tenant industrial properties, including warehouses and distribution facilities. Large, flat warehouse rooftops are well suited to solar arrays, which generate electricity onsite, and community solar projects, such as those STAG hosts in New Jersey and Maryland, allow multiple subscribers to share in the output of a single installation; both states operate programs supporting such subscriber-based projects. The host arrangement itself—under which a developer builds and operates the system while the landlord provides the roof—is a common route for real estate owners to add onsite generation without capital outlay.

Pennsylvania, for its part, has had an Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards law since 2004 that requires utilities to include a portion of qualifying energy sources, among them solar, in their retail electricity supply. With the program now spanning ten states, STAG’s rooftop portfolio offers a measurable baseline for tracking further additions as the company continues deploying distributed solar.
