Electric mobility company Spiro has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as Managing Director for West and Central Africa. According to a statement seen by Technext, the appointment further strengthens the company's leadership team as it enters its next phase of growth and expansion.

The move follows Spiro's $270 million funding round, after which the company has been accelerating growth and expansion across Africa. Spiro is building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem designed to speed the transition away from petrol-powered two-wheelers across the continent. Its model combines electric motorcycles with an extensive battery-swapping network, allowing riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes, making electric mobility more accessible and practical for everyday use — an approach that sidesteps one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption in the region: limited access to reliable charging infrastructure and grid electricity.

In his new role, Auroasish will report to Mobility CEO Kaushik Burman. He is expected to play a key role in strengthening Spiro's mobility business as the company ramps up operations, expands its mobility services, and prepares for upcoming market launches across Africa. His appointment adds depth to the mobility leadership team as expansion accelerates.

Commenting on the appointment, Spiro CEO Anant Badjatya said Auroasish's skills and qualities will be a strong asset for the company going forward.

His deep understanding of the sector, combined with his track record in market expansion and operational leadership, will be a strong asset as we continue to scale Spiro across Africa," he said.

Auroasish brings more than two decades of international automotive leadership experience across Africa, Asia, and Central and South America, spanning sales, business development, market expansion, and business transformation.

Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer of DAG Industries, leading the business across Nigeria and Benin. Before that, he held senior regional leadership roles at TVS Motor, where he led the company's businesses across Central and South America. He also worked at Escorts Kubota, with responsibility for international sales and business development across markets including the United States, Latin America, West Asia, and Sri Lanka. That background — combining emerging-market automotive operations with hands-on experience in Nigeria and Benin, two of Spiro's West African markets — aligns directly with the remit of his new role.

He joins Spiro at a particularly active stage of the company's growth. Spiro currently has more than 130,000 electric motorcycles on the road and has completed more than 50 million battery swaps. As it ramps up mobility services and prepares for further market launches, the company continues to build the scale, infrastructure, and local capabilities needed to accelerate Africa's transition to clean mobility.

Speaking about his appointment, Auroasish expressed excitement and said he looks forward to applying his expertise in the company's next stage of growth.

The announcement comes less than a month after Spiro appointed Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer. Huy, a former programme engineering manager at General Motors, joins the EV maker with nearly three decades of global automotive and electric vehicle experience spanning vehicle engineering, product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and operational scale-up. Taken together, the back-to-back hires signal the pace at which Spiro is building out its senior team as it deploys its recent funding.
