Somerset Minerals Confirms High-Grade Copper-Silver Discovery at Talisker Target in Canada
Key Takeaways
- •Somerset Minerals confirmed a new blind copper-silver discovery at Talisker from the first two holes of its maiden RC drill program at the Coppermine project in Canada.
- •The best assay interval returned 9.1 metres at 4.39% copper and 28.8 g/t silver within a broader 36.6-metre zone grading 1.62% copper and 11.8 g/t silver.
- •The Talisker corridor had never been previously drilled, and mineralisation was identified through systematic till geochemistry, geophysics, and structural mapping before drilling.
- •Somerset holds 20 additional analogous targets across the district and has permits in place for up to 100 drill holes to follow up the discovery.
- •SMM shares remained steady at 0.9 cents with a market capitalisation of $13.13 million ahead of market open.

Somerset Minerals (ASX:SMM) has confirmed a high-grade copper-silver discovery at the Talisker copper target, located within the Coppermine project in Canada, following assay results from the first two holes of its maiden reverse circulation (RC) drill program.
The discovery comes at a time when copper is increasingly sought by global markets, with the metal essential to electrification, renewable energy infrastructure, and grid-scale battery storage. Canada ranks among the world's top mining investment jurisdictions, offering established regulatory frameworks and proximity to North American refining capacity.
Both holes intersected thick zones of high-grade copper-silver mineralisation, establishing a new, largely blind copper discovery along the central Talisker corridor during the company's inaugural drill campaign.
Notable assay results included 36.6 metres at 1.62% copper and 11.8 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from 22.9 metres, including a higher-grade interval of 9.1 metres at 4.39% copper and 28.8 g/t silver. Additional intercepts comprised 38.1 metres at 1.27% copper and 7.4 g/t silver from 41.1 metres. A second hole returned 35.1 metres at 1.01% copper and 4.7 g/t silver from surface.
"These are phenomenal results. Two of the first holes ever drilled at Talisker have both intersected thick zones of high-grade copper-silver mineralisation. On any measure this is an outstanding start to a maiden drill program, and it confirms a new copper discovery at Talisker," Managing Director Chris Hansen said.
Hansen emphasised the significance of the blind nature of the discovery, noting that no historical drilling had been conducted along the corridor and that mineralisation is concealed beneath glacial cover. He explained that the target was developed systematically through regional till geochemistry, geophysics, detailed structural mapping, and infill till sampling.
"To convert that dataset into a copper discovery with the first two holes reported is emphatic validation of our targeting methodology, and it gives us enormous confidence in the pipeline of the 20 other analogous targets we hold across the district," Hansen added.
The maiden drill program is testing a central two-kilometre section of a 17-kilometre corridor that had never previously been drilled. The corridor is situated approximately four kilometres from White Cliff Minerals' Danvers deposit on a linked regional structure, underscoring the broader prospectivity of the district and the potential for Somerset's ground to host analogous mineralised systems.
Hansen indicated that assays for the remaining holes are arriving on a rolling basis, final soil laboratory assays are pending, and permits are in place for up to 100 holes, providing Somerset with a clear pipeline of news flow and the ability to immediately follow up the discovery.
The company's immediate focus is on systematically integrating drilling results with detailed geological logging, multi-element geochemistry, and final laboratory assays from a 641-sample infill soil program. This work aims to refine the geometry of the discovery and prioritise follow-up targets along the corridor.
SMM shares were steady at 0.9 cents, with a market capitalisation of $13.13 million prior to market open.
