Solana Reclaims DEX Volume Lead as Activity Slows Across Major Chains

Author: Coindoo·

Key Takeaways

  • Solana led the latest 24-hour DEX volume ranking with $1.637 billion, regaining first place from Robinhood Chain, which had topped the chart at $1.89 billion in a September 5 report citing DefiLlama.
  • Solana, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum, and BSC collectively processed about $4.40 billion in 24-hour DEX volume, roughly 37% below their combined average daily volume over the prior seven days.
  • Ethereum's position depends on the measurement period: it ranked third in the latest 24-hour window, trailed BSC over seven days ($8.562 billion versus $9.934 billion), but led over 30 days ($39.263 billion versus $37.153 billion).
  • Robinhood Chain, designed for tokenized stocks and financial products, saw its August surge past $25 billion in cumulative DEX volume driven largely by memecoins, stablecoin pairs, and other crypto swaps rather than Stock Tokens.
  • DEX volume measures the value of swaps rather than unique traders or net capital entering a chain, so assessing slower activity requires additional evidence such as wallet participation and liquidity levels.
Solana Reclaims DEX Volume Lead as Activity Slows Across Major Chains

Solana has returned to the top of the latest decentralized exchange (DEX) volume ranking, even as trading activity across leading networks has slowed. Solana, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum and BSC processed approximately $4.40 billion during the latest 24-hour period, about 37% below their combined average daily volume over the previous seven days.

According to the latest DefiLlama data, Solana recorded $1.637 billion in 24-hour DEX volume. Robinhood Chain followed with $1.379 billion, while Ethereum and BSC posted $721.6 million and $659.41 million, respectively.

DEX volume measures the value of swaps recorded by tracked venues, rather than the number of unique traders or the net amount of capital entering a chain. The same assets can therefore contribute to multiple transactions, making wallet participation and liquidity useful additional measures when assessing whether volume reflects broad activity.

Solana’s return to first place comes after a brief period in which Robinhood Chain led the ranking. A September 5 report citing DefiLlama placed Robinhood Chain’s daily DEX volume at $1.89 billion, ahead of Solana and BSC. Solana has since regained the lead, while the combined turnover of the four largest chains has fallen below its recent weekly pace.

Ethereum’s position varies by measurement period

Ethereum ranked third in the latest 24-hour window, ahead of BSC by approximately $62 million. The longer-term comparison produces a different result. Over the previous seven days, BSC recorded $9.934 billion in DEX volume, compared with Ethereum’s $8.562 billion. Over 30 days, however, Ethereum led with $39.263 billion, while BSC recorded $37.153 billion.

The differing rankings show why a single daily leaderboard is not a permanent measure of demand on a blockchain. A 24-hour result can change quickly because of large stablecoin swaps, trading incentives, token launches or activity at one particularly active venue. Seven- and 30-day figures offer additional context for determining whether a ranking reflects a short-lived burst or a broader change in activity.

Robinhood Chain’s earlier surge was driven by crypto trading

Robinhood Chain was designed to support tokenized stocks and other financial products, but its initial surge in activity came from crypto trading. In August, the chain surpassed $25 billion in cumulative DEX volume. Earlier analysis found that memecoins, stablecoin pairs and other crypto swaps accounted for much of that turnover, while Stock Tokens represented a smaller share.

That context limits what can be concluded from the latest decline in daily volume. DefiLlama’s chain table combines all tracked DEX swaps, including stablecoin trades, meme-coin transactions and stock-linked tokens. As a result, the data does not show which category was responsible for the slower session.

Robinhood Chain’s daily turnover has declined from its recent high, while Solana recorded the largest DEX total in the latest 24-hour window. Any claim about meme-coin demand would require more specific evidence, including active-wallet data, launch activity and liquidity levels in individual token pools.

Solana leads a quieter DEX session

The four-chain comparison points to two developments: Solana processed the most DEX volume during the latest 24-hour period, and traders moved less capital across these major venues than they did on an average day during the previous week. Ethereum’s different seven-day and 30-day positions further demonstrate how quickly daily rankings can change.

The available data supports a limited conclusion. Trading has slowed from a recently elevated pace, while Solana has reclaimed the lead. A longer period of declining volumes, together with weaker wallet participation and thinner liquidity, would be needed to establish a more durable retreat in speculative activity.
