Solana's Shanghai Accelerate Event Postponed After Registration Surge

The Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai was postponed after pre-registration surged past the attendance cap registered with local authorities, according to Solana Foundation President Lily Liu.

Registrations for the event quadrupled overnight after publicity spread, Liu wrote in a Friday post on X, adding that organizers had decided to postpone the gathering in order to "comply with local requirements."

Earlier on Friday, X users claimed the event had been "abruptly suspended," with law enforcement officers stationed at the venue.

The late change highlights the logistical and compliance constraints of staging large crypto community events in China, where the digital-asset sector operates under longstanding restrictions.

Shanghai had been scheduled to open Solana's four-city Accelerate China tour, with stops planned in Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday and Beijing on Thursday, according to the event's website. Attention now turns to whether the remaining three stops proceed as planned and whether organizers announce a replacement date for Shanghai.

Accelerate is Solana's global conference series, an event format the foundation has used to convene the blockchain network's developers, founders and community members across multiple regions.

The postponement came just days after Solana executives' promotion of a new Shanghai office earlier in the week.

It was not the first such disruption. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was also cut short due to venue capacity and public-safety concerns, Solana's Chinese-language community account announced on X at the time.

China prohibits a range of crypto-related services, including token fundraising, trading and mining, and has maintained sweeping restrictions on the sector since 2021, when regulators barred financial institutions from handling cryptocurrency transactions and pushed mining operations offshore.

In February, the People's Bank of China and seven other government agencies doubled down on those restrictions in a notice that added new, including the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.
