Key Takeaways

  • •Shiba Inu recorded its heaviest spot trading session since Sept. 23 at $10.07 million in volume, about 2.1 times the 30-day median, yet finished the day down just 1.1%.
  • •Friday's low of 0.005523 dipped just below the Sept. 23 bottom of 0.005534 before price recovered to close 3.7% above the low, a pattern traders describe as a sweep of clustered stop orders.
  • •The day's sharpest decline, a 3.8% drop during the 18:00 UTC hour, occurred on roughly one-third of the volume traded in the peak 10:00 UTC hour.
  • •Open interest on the Binance perpetual climbed 11% to $31.63 million by 12:00 UTC but retreated to $28.18 million by 20:00 UTC, erasing the entire intraday increase.
  • •The technical setup remains balanced, requiring a four-hour close above 0.006000 or below 0.005492 to confirm a breakout, with targets at 0.006075 and 0.006276 on the upside or 0.005455 and 0.004987 on the downside.
SHIB Ends Its Busiest Day Since Sept. 23 Barely Lower as Key Range Holds

Shiba Inu (SHIB) closed Friday near 0.005728 per 1,000 SHIB after a heavy day of spot trading, finishing only marginally lower with its established range of 0.005492 to 0.006000 still intact.

Friday was the busiest session since Sept. 23. In the hour between 10:00 and 11:00 UTC, $2.85 million of SHIB changed hands on Binance spot, while the SHIB price on the perpetual slid from 0.005931 to 0.005900, roughly half a percent. That single hour accounted for 28% of the day's total turnover. The full session finished at $10.07 million, about 2.1 times the 30-day median of $4.70 million, and only Sept. 21, 22 and 23 have seen heavier volume in the past month.

A note on units: SHIB traded near $0.00000567 on spot as of Saturday, Oct. 3, at 08:00 UTC. Every other level cited here is per 1,000 SHIB, the convention Binance uses for its 1000SHIBUSDT perpetual, where the same price reads 0.00567. That 1,000-times multiplier is a readability convention, not a separate asset.

A Quiet Thursday, Then a Loud Friday

Thursday, Oct. 1, was the mirror image: spot volume came in at $3.60 million, roughly three-quarters of the median, meaning Friday ran about 2.8 times that figure. The data does not show what prompted the pickup, and no cause is assigned here.

The daily range tells a calmer story. Friday opened at 0.005791 and climbed to 0.005980 before sliding to 0.005523 and closing at 0.005728. High to low, that is an 8.3% swing, yet the day ended down just 1.1%.

The Dip Came on Thinner Volume

The sharpest drop arrived later. In the 18:00 UTC hour, price fell from 0.005798 to 0.005577, down 3.8%, on $0.95 million of spot volume — about a third of what the 10:00 hour had traded. The next hour printed Friday's low of 0.005523.

That low sat just beneath 0.005534, where Wednesday, Sept. 23, bottomed — the kind of level where stop orders tend to cluster. Price still closed the 23:00 UTC hour at 0.005728, 3.7% above the bottom. A dip under a prior low followed by a close back above it is what traders call a sweep. Elsewhere, Pi Coin is stalling near $0.09.

Open Interest Went Up, Then Came Home

Open interest on the Binance perpetual made a similar round trip. It stood at $28.49 million at 04:00 UTC Friday, climbed 11% to $31.63 million by 12:00 UTC, and was back at $28.18 million by 20:00 UTC — the entire increase was gone before the day ended. Open interest tallies the notional value of all open perpetual contracts, rising when new positions are opened and falling when they are closed.

As of 08:00 UTC Saturday, 60.7% of accounts on that contract were long, while the top-trader position ratio read 66.1% long. Funding printed 0.01% at each of the last three settlements. Funding is the periodic payment exchanged between the long and short sides of a perpetual, and a positive rate means the long side pays the short side.

What Would Count as a Real Break

Neither side has earned a lean on the SHIB price, and the read stays balanced. All but one four-hour close since Thursday, Sept. 24, has landed between 0.005492 and 0.006000, and Friday's volume did not change that. Judging by closes rather than intraday extremes is what lets a session with an 8.3% high-to-low swing leave the range read untouched.

An upside break requires a four-hour close above 0.006000. Targets sit at 0.006075, the Sept. 26 high, and 0.006276, the high from Sept. 22. A four-hour close back under 0.005838 would cancel that setup.

A downside break requires a four-hour close under 0.005492, Tuesday's low. Targets are 0.005455 and then 0.004987, the Sept. 11 low. A four-hour close back over 0.005600 would cancel that one.

For broader context, Bitcoin changes hands near $84,560, while its 100-day average hangs near $71,000, about 16% below price. Among altcoins, SHIB is 9.7% under its 20-day high and 3.2% over its 10-day low. Everything here is as of 08:00 UTC Saturday.

A four-hour close outside the 0.005492 to 0.006000 box is what would change this read of the SHIB price.
