Hayden Adams Says SBF Paid Seven Figures for Uniswap.com Before WIPO Transfer

Uniswap co-founder Hayden Adams said Sam Bankman-Fried paid a seven-figure sum for Uniswap.com after the original owners sought that amount from Uniswap and the project declined to buy the domain. Adams said the domain was later redirected to a rival Uniswap fork, prompting Uniswap’s legal team to obtain it without paying the original asking price.

Adams disclosed the account in a post on X on September 20, 2026. The post referred to the domain as and included a link to

Fun fact, the og owners of wanted 7 figures, but we refused to pay that amount

So SBF bought it (for 7 figures) and pointed it to a fork – I guess to flex / mess with us

This malicious use of the domain was enough for our legal team to get it for free

Bankman-Fried bought the domain after Uniswap declined

According to Adams, the original owners of Uniswap.com requested a price in the seven-figure range, but Uniswap was unwilling to pay that amount. Bankman-Fried later purchased the domain for what Adams described as a comparable seven-figure sum.

Adams said Bankman-Fried then directed the domain to a fork of Uniswap, describing the move as an attempt to “mess with” or “flex” the project. Adams did not disclose the exact amount paid. The term “seven figures” indicates an amount of at least $1 million and less than $10 million.

The incident took place before the collapse of FTX in November 2022, when Bankman-Fried was one of the most prominent figures in the cryptocurrency industry.

WIPO ordered the domain transferred

The domain dispute eventually reached the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In September 2021, a WIPO panel found that Uniswap.com redirected visitors to a particular page on SushiSwap, another decentralized exchange operating in the same market.

The panel determined that the domain name was identical to the Uniswap trademark and ordered its transfer to UNISWAP Labs, the company behind the Uniswap cryptocurrency exchange. WIPO’s database states that the respondent registered the domain on April 7, 2021.

The ruling resolved control of the web address through the domain dispute process rather than by setting or revisiting the price Adams said the original owners had requested. The WIPO ruling did not identify the buyer as Bankman-Fried. However, it ruled in favor of transferring the domain to UNISWAP Labs. Adams’ account provides the newly disclosed connection between the domain purchase and Bankman-Fried.

Adams referenced a separate domain-related post

Adams also mentioned a separate post by Justin Liao, co-founder and CEO of Parafield. Liao joked, “this guy is serious,” while pointing to a16z.vc. An attached screenshot showed Evan Frawley standing before a crowd at a16z and asking people who wanted a domain to contact him on Twitter. Liao’s post is available at https://x.com/imjustinliao/status/2101710949300515253.

Liao later clarified that the post was not directed at anyone. He said he had noticed that @2048vc was using the .vc domain, became curious, and investigated, which led him to the screenshot.

The transaction that prompted Adams to repost Liao’s message was unrelated to the Uniswap domain dispute, although it provided additional context for the discussion. Adams’ main disclosure was that Bankman-Fried used a seven-figure amount to acquire Uniswap.com and that Uniswap ultimately obtained the domain through legal proceedings rather than paying the original owners’ asking price.
